To wave or not to wave??

Yep we wave too, caravanners, motorhomers, police cars, Ambos, Firies.

Some wave back some dont, I dont fret about it. Its a bit like smiles if you see someone without one then give them one of yours. If they dont accept it tough.

People in rural areas seem to do it more often.(wave that is)

Many years ago we headed up to Cairns on our first adventure in our little Cabana, it took us days to work out that fellow caravan towers were waiving because we too were towing a van confuse But happily accnowledged every other Van tower from then on. Now there are just so many of us that many choose not to give a wave anymore. It is still an automatic response from us particually if it's on a road less travelled - but can see how it has become tedious on the bigger roads. The thing is because of this forum we now feel the need to wave to every type of traveller cause we are all doing the same thing in different boats biggrin we have met soo many lovley people and we tell them all about this site and how friendly and informative it is. Hope to see some of them on here. smile

Ma often has nanny naps when we are towing, I think its because she uses so much energy robustly waving at every caravan, campervan, motorhome and even someone who looks like they may have a tent onboard.

Keep waving, it spreads happiness on the road.

PS Do you ever wonder when towing the van that you are going the wrong way, we always pass more vans heading in the other direction???

I used to believe it was very hard work to drive a motorhome, as all the time we were on the road, only a small handful of motor hpme drivers ever returned our waves.

We always wave to caravans and motor homes, hardly ever get a wave back from the hire sort (Britz etc) but figure if we all do it then they will eventually notice and participate.

I wave at caravans, even when we are not towing. Alan thinks I am nuts, but I say I am just keeping in practise until we get on the road ourselves.

I waved to all (most) campers up the west coast to Darwin and across the top to Townsville and down to Rockhampton. After that there were way too many!. Then from Canberra thru to Bega, when I wasn't too busy admiring the fantastic countryside. Then from Bendigo thru Pinnaroo and on to Coolgardie was all "waving" country

Yes I'm a waver. I've been doing it for so long it's second nature now. Whether I'm towing or on the job, I wave to all happy campers and the trucks, even though I've had to talk to them by radio.
Not in the city though. They don't get it.
The rental vans and motorhomes are often occupied by Europeans, and they just don't get the wave, although I explain it to them every chance I get.

Yup, I'm a waver. I love all the different forms of waves, it amuses me for ages.

The one finger wave, the salute, big wavers, both wavers and the double barrel wave. Thats when this one dude drew both barrels at us and shot off a wave.

Its a lot of fun and I won't be stopping soon. It may be one of you I wave to not knowing and I would hate to miss that opportunity. wink

That is so cool my hubbie has been saying for years that he wants a hand to do the waving, we take turns driving and the passenger is the appointed waver.

Im afraid Im a waver too. Lived out of town for 25yrs and you just get into the habit. Now I respond to those who wave while traveling. i say hello to folk while I am walking too, some answer some don't. Cant hurt.

Absolutely, definitely always wave and love it when they wave back.

Bonus when both the driver and navigator both wave back. Makes me smile every time.

Prior to us adopting him, he was called "Thing".

The little kids at camp gounds love him . Have had plenty of adults ask where we got him from as they want one.

Yep we wave but.....
we have found some unwritten rules.

Never on a divided road- waste of time
Don't bother on the Hume or Pacific Hwys
Motor homes mostly won't wave (or wave back) to poptops pulled by sedans or station waggons
Rented motorhomes wave to no one
Jayco's with kids in the back of the tug wave to no one either, unless the kids are doing the waving- and then you can't see it anyway.
Anyone with a truckie close on their tail - they need 2 hands on the wheel.
Weekend warriors towing at over 100kpm won't wave back either.

We solved the problem about 6 years back.
We now take "hand" with us on our travels. He is quite happy to sit on the passengers side dash and does the job for us.

Back on subject....I always wave when traveling with my camper to other caravaners, if someone waves and when driving a bus to other buses and trucks. I actually get annoyed when a bus driver doesn't wave back or at acknowledge me. Silly I spose.

Hi everyone, we are new to the forum but have spent some time reading and enjoying the topics, I just had to add to the "waving" topic. Many years ago when we were very young we travelled to WA across the Nullabor which was dirt and corrugations and being new at this travelling thing and being city dwellers we couldn't work out why the occupants of vehicles travelling towards waved so much. We got very worried thinking there was something wrong, until at a roadside stop someone explained they were just being friendly, Of course then we joined in and have been wavers ever since.

We wave all the time to every one, some just lift the finger in acknowledgement ,but one wave that did give us a smile one lady thought we were her best friends and waved madly at us, an other had green hands made, I want some of those, for my next trip lol and one camper just has a hand drawn on a bit of cardboard

This post sounds like, me, it doesn't take much for me to nod off!! But, yep we are wavers. Some wave back, and others don't but we don't care we still wave. Noticed in Victoria lots of vanners etc didn't wave back ???

We always wave at other travellers, it doesn't matter if they are towing a van or are a campervan or Motorhome, some wave back others don't.
