240v on Jayco Sterling


Am I misssing something here.

I can't seem to get my Jayco Sterling to run on 240v.

Is there an overload switch somewhere that I can't find? .....it's not  the earth leakage switch, I've checked that.  Where do I look?

What can't you get to work? The 12 V lights or the 240 V power points?

Have a 2008 model as well Meander. Have been very happy with our home away from home ours has travelled at least 70,000km. Glenda

Hi

If the RCD does not throw on test ,then in this case it is unlikely to be faulty

It would seem you are not getting 240v as far as the RCD

The overload switch & RCD should be  combined or adjacent to each other

Time for a qualified electrician !!

Peter,

Hi Meander, The Our overload swith is in the cupboard where the water/battery monitor is. Glenda Ps We sometimes have trouble at home when we connect to 240v, need to jiggle the power chord atnthe van inlet. At home we have a 15amp to 12 amp chord.

 Needing to juggle the cord indicates you have a bad connection

Not good, fire or worse electric shocks could result due to that

Please have it checked by a licensed electrician

I hope you are aware that 15amp<10mp cord is illegal for very good reasons

Again fire could result & insurance would be void

Yes realised that the other day when I looked at the plug, could see burnt wires through the clear plastic. It went to the tip! But sometimes in this van I just do not push the plug in hard enough, I am short and the connection is up high. Mmmmm would probably be sensible to leave it to the other half but have always connected the electricity on previous vans and routines are sometimes difficult to break. Glenda

I would very strongly recommend you get the the van power inlet checked

It is very likely that it & the wiring behind it have also been damaged by that heat

A serous fire could easily occur

Also your new lead could also be quickly back to the same state as the old one

 PLEASE GET THE VAN INLET CHECKED

Thanks for all that advice.

Next call .......an electrician, I tried a multitude of leads, hooked up the Honda, still no 240 at the RCD.

Will let you know when I have got it fixed.

I finally sorted this out...........one of the pins at the inlet point.

The plastic retainer for the pin had decided to retire and consequently the pin has gone forward when the plug was tried to be put on.

This could not be seen easily......untill I disassembled the inlet.

I had replaced the earth leakage device, and when this didn't rectify the problem went searching else where
