After 4 years of use the original foam mattress in our camper trailer is not very comfortable. We aleady have a thick mattress protector and the egg foam layer on it.
We are wondering about the low line innerspring mattresses.
Most of the mattress companies will make one to size to fit your van
we went to making mattresses and found one that was comfortable and supportive, gave them the dimensions we needed and they made it for us at the same price as a queen size in the shop.
worked for us

We got an inner spring from Jayco 13 years ago & put one of those egg shell thingos on it because it was too hard after our (then) at home water bed.
We have moved on to a latex & wool top one at home but though it is great, I think that I get a better night's sleep on the old inner spring in the van. But then when I sleep on a bit of foam in the back of the Patrol I sleep well on it too.
Maybe I do lots more exercise when on the road & that's the reason.
We chose a foam mattress for the caravan, because its lighter than inner spring, and surprisingly, its very comfortable. The expensive latex mattress we have at home isnt any better than the caravan one. Foam does deteriorate though, so try to get a good quality foam if you decide to replace it with another foam one Pam.
We had inner springs made for our van - but we forgot to allow for the edging they sew the top and side together with and the mattresses are a very tight fit - so be aware of little things like that. We went for innerspring after being away for a while and having bad backs after sleeping on foam - thought 'Why put up with a not so good bed in the caravan when we'll be using it for extended periods?' We need a good night's sleep in the van as much as we need it at home.
