WHAT TO PUT ON THE GROUND UNDER AWNING

Re the ground sheet this is what I use (click on the link) http://www.cgear.com/rec_product.html  If I'm on a slab at a caravan park I don't bother with a ground sheet.

No doubt there'll be plenty of other suggestions so you'll be able to take your pick.

I'll leave the satellite question to others.

My sentiments exactly. You can't go past the CGear matting. We used it on our 2 year trip & it did the job perfectly & lived up to the advertising blurb on their website.

Also, if you are staying somewhere for a long period of time, the grass under the CGear matting won't die like it would under a tarp.

I have actually heard from people that some places won't let you use normal tarps for that very reason though I have no first hand experience to back that claim up.

Cheers

Jon

Any or all of the above. I have a tarp, friends have matting they got from Bunnings, there are so many options. Its what suits you best and what you can carry.
Can't help you with the satellite system, don't have one.

confuse I have been using a rubber matting that is available from Clarke rubber and meets the requirements of all caravan parks I have also seen it in BCF stores ours is now about eight years old and still in very good condition and all i do is hose it down after each trip, but as others have said its often a personal choice which one suits you best.smile

I would agree with some of the posts re the cgear,it's probably the best option for a lot of reasons. Expensive but good.

Re the satellite stuff.A good site to visit is http://satplus.com.au

they sell all the stuff you need for a satellite setup.

Free to air 'VAST" Viewer Access Satellite Television.

This uses the Optus C1 satellite and covers the whole of Australia.

They can also do the Pay TV stuff.

Hope this helps.

I use shade cloth as a ground sheet under my awning. I had some left over from the yacht I owned. Just pin it down with tent pegs. I also have a vast sattelite box and dish, and can get , with a little setting up clear tv anywhere in australia .The govt subsidised the box for my house, nand I use it when I can,t get free signal. Works great on inverter or gen set. Bill

I agree, VAST is the most up to date digital stuff, if you are bush camping you will also need an inverter, we have a 300watt pure sinewave inverter, make sure its pure sinwave if you want to run digital, well that was what I was told.

please do not think I am having a go at you, not sure if you are aware that using capitals and bold in forum's and email's is considered to be shouting.

Some people find the text too small you can make it bigger by holding the Ctrl key at the same time as pressing the + key.

We use shade cloth and tent pegs too. But the Stockton CP (north of Newcastle NSW) now uses the cgear matting to mark out it's powered sites. Very good -except some thoughtless people have obviously put tent pegs into to suit their own needs. They also don't like cars turning their wheels on it as this causes a burn mark.

I HAVE JUST GOT A VAST BOX AND ATTACHED ALL YHE DISH ,LMB CABLE ETC FROM MY OLD STRONG BOX AND ALL IS GOOD BUT THE VAST BOX RUNS OFF OF 12V OR 24V WHICH IS MUCH MORE CONVENIENT THAN INVERTERS

Welcome Rowdyrabbit1 but do you have to shout? We can all hear you. (ie did you know that using capitals means you are 'shouting'?)

Several people I know use the shade cloth too. In the past, I used the interlocking mats, but I may change to the shade cloth too. It allows the grass to survive, dirt to fall through, and you can also sweep leaves etc off easily.

Google 'Camec awning matting' and a wide range of sizes comes up. We used it for six years and is was still as new.

I just rake down the ground where I want to sit and then use the ground. Have a mat to wipe my feet when I get into the bus.

TV is not high on my list. I am led to believe and will try when I get the opportunity but if you are a pensioner the government will subsidise you system. The only problem is you need to stay till they instal.

Bill might be able to enlighten as it seems he is doing what I believe is possible and was told when I rang. The sitting for up to six weeks is the problem.

I had a matting from Camec but never used it once I was on my own so recently gave it a ways as it needed space and weighted so could not see the need to just carry it around like I have for the last 2 years Plus.

Regards
Brian

We tried the shadecloth, but I found it slippery in shoes, and rough on bare feet.

happy with the matting, which though expensive initially, lasts forever.

Yes R & R we found the shadecloth slippery too, and I got a fright when I slipped over a long way away from medical help. Fortunately nothing broken, and the shadecloth got thrown out.
We had that green (or blue) rubber matting stuff but found the dust came up through it. CGear is the goods!

We also need to purchase some form of matting, have been following this thread with interest. Will need to purchase when we start again in May. Any visitors to our van at Gympie will probably be asked to wipe their feet before stepping on our new mat!! biggrinbiggrinbiggrinwinkwinkwink

Gee, it's a wonder my sister hasn't done that. She's as bad as me, if there's a way to fall down, we find it. disbelief Maybe she wears rubber soled shoes.

Glad you didn't hurt yourself Rosie.
