Hi - Mike here. A Yorkshire Pom resident in New Zealand. I am intending travelling to Adelaide at the end of May to become a Grey Nomad for a number of weeks. My transport is not a Camper or Caravan but a Bicycle. Yes a Bicycle a 'Surly Long Haul Trucker'. Will be leaving Adelaide at the beginning of June to ride to Darwin, up the Stuart Highway with a few side trips. I have a target of arriving in Darwin for my 70th on 5 August. Totally self supported, tent, sleeping bag and cooker etc. and of course lots of water. If you see me on the road give a yell or a wave. I will always be looking to stop for a chat and for spare water too if you have it. I will place details of how to recognise me and my Bike at a later date.
Welcome Pirongia and congratulations for your ambition. Phew, I'm buggered just reading your plans. I'm in Adelaide, in a caravan park on the highway, on the northern side. Please PM me when you're closer and I'll give you details. Please call in for a quick cuppa and a chat. I'm surrounded by K1W1's here. See you soon.

WOW what a way to do it, would'nt it be better to fly to Darwin and come down to Adelaide cos it's down hill all the way, well it looks like that on the map to me, but then I'm only a wombat
You silly wombat. Wish you woulld come over here and bite the bum of the neighbours dog which cries all day while they are away at work.
Re the cycling, There is no way I would do it either way. up or down, unless in a relaible van with plenty of provisions.
Na, I don't like dogs bums perhaps its lonely, maybe you could tell them about it in a nice way because I bet they do not know about it's crying all day, maybe even ask if you can take it for a walk during the day when they are away.
I just relised you called me silly without putting the Sir in front, in future it's Sir Silly Wombat
Sir Silly Wombat. Its a very big dog that I wouldn't go near. Son knows it and says it whines all the time. I'm not about to upset any of the neighbours being new here. Being about 600 houses in the whole town, one has to be careful what one says to anyone, if you get my drift Sir. It's a very lonely existence I'm afraid.

Hi Maam, you need to join the old folks club and get to know a few people it takes time to settle in, especially into a small town.
Will not be lonely for long, when will you start your travels?
When I can find some money Sir, Have bought washing machine, fridge, bed, sofa and coffee table, plus had the plumber in to fix all the leaks. Now broke. Next payday will see me get to the Gympie meet, thats a fortnight away. I did mention my experience with the senior citz on another thread. They wanted the shirt off my back just for one visit. I didn't have a shirt that day so haven't bothered.

I do remember that post now, something about having to take cakes etc just to get in the front door, chekky bugga's
Marj Do they have a bowling club or similar. Often these clubs in small towns have days when you can just come along and enjoy the day. You may have to join but usually very cheap as a social member.
Check out if they have a Sunday breakfast or similar. Just go and ask at the club when you see someone there. You may get to like it.
Just watch the pokeys but then you should know about them anyhow.
Regards Brian

I doubt if there would be any pokies in this town beiffe. There is a bowling club, two pubs and a golf club, all small. Don't think there is pokies in the pubs either. I would rather get on the road and go see some sites, camp up somewhere and enjoy the views. I have never been one to join clubs. Not sure if I want to start now.

HW, just join the bowling club to meet some people (locals) and then leave but still keep the friends you make.
