I have just built a trailer for my slide on as its a pain to load on the ute.75x50 rhs, and 50x50 crossmembers, fully welded.Override brakes on 13 inch holden wheels.I,m going to fit another water tank, and the sides and going to be alum checker plate with lockable doors.A big tool box is going on the front.Should be good when its finished. Bill
I don,t think I,ll go with the opera window. They do some crazy things in NZ. When I was there , many years ago, I hitchiked in a T model ford, and a helocopter, in the south island. I was also in a car that was powered by coal gas, but it blew up near Thames, the the north island.Am waiting for some new 13 inch sunraiser wheels and new tyres , so I can fit the brakes.Have you got brakes on your little van?Wish I was down south at Gympie , with the other gns. Thanks,Bill

When I went to NZ with the ex, we bought a Ford Escort Panel van in Auckland for $600. it took us all over both islands til it blew the 'cooked' in Dunedin. We swapped a bloke for his little sedan...he wanted a panel van...which took us the rest of our journey to Christchurch, where we flew out from. He left the little sedan with his nephew to sell.
Mine is self breaking Bill. Yeh, would have been good to see you at Gympie.
here are some updated pics of the van with the battery fitted and ready to tow to the police station to be registered.Doesn,t look too bad , if I do say so myself, and I have saved $3000 on a commercially built trailer.I,m adding another 60 ltr water tank, tommorrow. Looking forward to using it. Bill

My b-i-l, son and brother all like to do similarly for themselves. My brother bought an old caravan last year for $1500, raised it, put big tyres on, checkerplated all round it, not sure what else, but it looks just the thing now. He can take it up the beach no problems. I'll have to get a photo of it.
I'm heading up to my sisters tomorrow actually. Lulu is almost ready for our GN meet at Gympie. I just need to sort the cupboards, make up the bed etc.
At some stage over the next next few months, I need to get the corrosion underneath seen to, and some new springs. B-i-l can't do that as he has a crook back.
So far she hasn't cost much. Other than the battery and solar panel. Lee is tallying up a bill for me.

Yes, I am going to town , next week to get some alum checker plate to make lockers under the sides.A bit of rewiring to do , but nothing that I can,t undertake myself. I quite enjoy doing things myself, and its saving me big bucks. How,s your van going, Beth?
Just caught up with this post Bill, sorry. It looks great, just the way you described it to me last week when we met up. The storage boxes on the sides will be good too. Keep those updates coming mate.

I just have come back from the local police station to get a vin number, and tommorrow It will be REGISTERED! Its going to cost about $200 a year. How much is it to register trailers or vans in your state? I live in QLD. Bill
A trailer costs about $60 in SA, but a caravan is a bit more. You've turned a trailer into a caravan. Now you'll have to build a canopy over the ute to secure your tools and stuff. I wish I had learned to weld instead of sew and knit. Much more useful.

Yes , its a handy skill. I have one of those little inverter welders, and carry it with me when I travel. Also, being a trained engineer helps. If I ever give up being a charter fisherman, I don,t think I,ll have much of a problem getting work. There is always something to be fixed. The tinny and the postiebike go on the ute. I just got sick of loading the camper. It nearly fell off the spindly legs a couple of times. This way seems easier.See you on the road. Bill
