It's still hard to know what you are asking about .....

I use a supercheap funnel which has a filter which I attach to a washing machine drain hose, hose goes into my 20litre drum. All attached with small occy strap also from Supercheap. Total cost <$15.

#1 Funnel is in three sections so comes apart for no space storage.

#2 20 litre drum not to heavy to lift for most  to get water into tank,

#3 Same funnel used to transfer water to tank.

This setup I have seen used by others , so it is not my doing but works for me.

Without even a description of what you're talking about, we have no idea what you mean by "IT".   None of us are mind-readers unfortunately.

Cheers,

Sheba.

Sorry Sheba- I thought the subject heading was self explanatory

Apparantly its a folding canvas bag that slides into the slot in the awning roller at the end that is lowered when raining. Has a hose fitting at the bottom to connect to a hose for water redirection. My google searches say its made in QLD but no website or pics.

It's just that there could be quite a number of different ones, and we had no way of knowing which .

Cheers,

Sheba.

Saw this at Emu Park today. I have the owners' permission to post the pics. He's selling a small 'Van, that's fitted out for free-camping. Reason for sale, is wife wants internal Shower/Toilet.

He just connects a hose from here to the water tank, to collect rainwater, while stationary.

Having a "seniors moment" re. how he attatched it, but I'm sure you guys can figure it out.

Cheers,

Sheba.

we have a set-up ,very easy and cheap. we have a funnel with a filter which is tied up under our awning and we drop the awning to one side and we have attached a hose to the funnel with normal hose attachments and the hose can be wrapped around the arm of the awning and then directed straight into the water tank without having to have it go into a bucket and pour it into the tank ,very cheap and it works well.

Water quality would be the only thing I would be worried about with putting it straight into the tank.

I grew up on tank water so I'm not worried about that but in some places you might camp, the rain can wash salt spray, sand, dust, leaves, animal poo etc off the roof/awning, so I would be inclined to have a separate container and test the water (Look, Taste and Smell test) before decanting it into your tank or add treatment tabs at least.

I rarely carry water in my tank unless I'm going where I definitely wont get water as it's an extra 120kg in my case which I would prefer to put into fuel or other luggage so I think this is a great idea but to a separate 20ltr container I agree is the safest way to go for at least the first 10mm or so and I would only look at catching heavy rain as it's the cleanest.

I have seen nifty devices before for lifting or holding up jerry cans to decant via gravity feed which is what I would prefer to do in this case or just leave it in the Jerry and use it from that on a table.

Cheers Damo
