Last Friday we listed our beautiful Coaster Motorhome for sale in The Wanderer ( CMCA magazine ), reluctantly selling due to ill health.
On Sunday I received a text saying that there was an e-mail in my in box. On opening the e-mail a person by the name of Georgie Mahooney said that he worked in a semi submersable under the ocean and worked 15 days on and 15 days off. He supposedly wanted the Coaster for his father in NZ. I responded and asked him for a contact mobile number and he said that there was no reception, then asking for my "best price"and any more info. or pics. I supplied more info and pics., he said the price was "great" and he would accept the offer. Then the penny dropped....he asked for our bank/paypal details saying he would deposit the money into our account and an "international shipping agent" would pick the bus up !
Upon doing some research, this bloke has tried the same scam with a house, aeroplanes, classic cars etc., all as gifts for his" father ". Once I told him that I was on to him, guess what, no further communication !!
i listed a item on ebay a couple of weeks ago same sort of story she was a marine biologist and was out at sea she wanted my paypal details and would arrange a courier to pick up i listed at $600 auction she wanted to pay me $1500 and buy it
They cancel the paypal payment and get the money back after they have the item. . That is one way I have been told. Never ever go through paypal for motorvehicles of any sort. Always cash after checking over the vehicle. There is a way they can scam you there too.
I had the same thing while selling my last van. He was on a rig and buying for his father in NZ. I got very stroppy and was quite short with the lady who did finally buy it. I was armed and ready for another scam. Fortunately she was genuine and it all went through. Sad really isn't it. Tess
They use a paypal invoice saying they have paid with extra money for the courier to pick it up but paypal will not release the money until the courior has been paid . They want you to send money to the courier via western union, and if you do you lose that money and dont hear from them again Ken
Our son was selling a car on carsales.com.au and got three similiar emails. He printed them off and compared them. Seller beware! He did eventually sell to a genuine buyer who paid cash.
Best way to do it - Open a Debit acc - once th $s go in , close th acc .
Bank Man put me up to that one when 'old mate' went to sell his KW
in Trading Post - an 'offshore engineer' offered him 10k more and an
int courier would pick 'th item' up , wot , pick up a 11ton Kenworth .
He got his 50k from another truckperson .

no need to close the debit account, just go and take the money out as soon as it goes in there and you can use that account again, make sure you only leave a small amount of money in it, been doing that for years, I always leave a balance of about $5-$10
We had a friends dad selling land they too were out on an oil rig at sea adked for details Of paypal and said we will pick it up after we pay hahahaha they are everywhere and most people Should know by now ive put an add on gumtree and in big letters no scammers
