Sat Phones

I apologise if this has been answered elsewhere.

Does anyone travel with a Sat phone and if so where did you purchase?

I have looked on the Net and am more confused than ever.

We travel full time and have been in some places where our mobiles do not work even though we have Telstra blue tick with car areial.

We are looking for a Sat phone for emergencies, and I know that I can get Govt subsity.  The pre paid option for 2 years changes to 180 days on the 1 June 2012 so I would like to get one before that.

Thanks

Denise

Hi one site is http://www.toxictech.com.au

They advertise in The Wanderer which is TheCMCA magazine and I beleive that satplus also advertise sat phones.

Hope this helps.

I have no affiliation with either of these companies.

there are restrictions in getting a sat phone subsidy.

Are you eligible for $1000 satellite subsidy rebate?

The Satellite Phone Subsidy Scheme is an Australian Government initiative to help people living or working in remote parts of Australia purchase satellite phones.
Who is Eligible?
A person living or operating a business in an area with no mobile reception is entitled to a 85% subsidy, up to $1000 off the price of a satellite phone.
Eg - the IsatPhone Pro satellite phone for $825 now only cost the buyer $123.75
A person living in an area with mobile phone reception, though travels to areas without mobile phone reception more than 90 days a year (180+ days over the next 2 years), for work or recreation is entitled to a 50% subsidy up to $700 off the price of a satellite phone
Eg - the IsatPhone Pro satellite phone for $825 now only costs the buyer $412.50
Do I need an ABN to be eligible?
No. The satellite subsidy scheme is designed for all types of people living or traveling in remote areas, or areas with no mobile phone coverage.

Do I need to supply any additional documents?
If applying for the 50% satellite subsidy, no. If you are applying for the satellite subsidy when your residential or business address has no mobile phone coverage (85% subsidy) you need at also supply a photocopy of either a utility bill, rates notice, drivers license or Telstra bill. Something with you name and address on it, to validate that you live at your listed address.
How many satellite subsidies can I apply for?
You can only apply for one subsidy per person and two under an ABN. For example if you had an ABN, you could apply for up to 3 satellite subsidies. Two under your business and one under your personal name.
How do I apply for the Satellite Subsidy Scheme?
Contact Toxic Tech for more information if needed, or click on the below link to download the satellite subsidy application. Once completed, return it to Toxic Tech via fax, email or post so it can be lodged with the DBCDE for processing.
