water presure and quality in SA is all over the place, can be as you discribe, do you have problems in other states?

also if you are in a caravan park they sometimes reduce pressure to save money

Hi Glenda,

I wonder if you might have a small blockage in the pipe line. I use a portable in-line water filter when connected to mains and also when filling the tank, it is only about 300mm long and connects to the hose from the tap, then a smaller section of hose I made up and that then connects the the van fitting. It would stop any unwanted bits and pieces plus you get filtered water to drink and filtered water going into your tank all the time. I also drain the tank if not going away for a while. I got the filter from a CV accessory shop. Camp supply shops might have them as well.

Have had same problems in other states. Water pressure is fine at the tap. Last night water was a dribble, early this morning fine when I had a shower, now a dribble again....very frustrating. Happens a couple of times a day. Glenda

Not being a plumber Glenda, I'm not all that Shaw how to clean out the pipeline, perhaps if you know a plumber they might be able to suggest something. You could also check out Shannon Love, I thinks that's her name, she is like the modern day Martha Gardner. Maybe a bottle of Milton baby bottle cleaner into the water tank for a while, use the taps etc, then flush it out a couple of times. I was in Super Cheap Auto earlier today and notice they had the "In-line" water filter there as well. $19.95.

That's Shannon Lush Doug. Not sure she'd know what to do about water pressure. She's the cleaning guru. But you could try.

I think most vans have an in line filter (as well as an anti backflow device).

Have a look under your van. Follow the water inlet pipe from the external connection. You should find a larger cylinder in the pipe line about 6" long and twice the diameter of the pipe.

Remove it, usually just held in place by a clip of some sort. Dismantle it & clean it out. Might just happen to be the problem.

I check mine after every longish trip & every 6 mths or so at the same time I service the hot water system sacrificial anode.

It's nice lying in the quiet under the van looking for broken things & no SWMBO interruptions.

Not the pressure bit, just the cleaning out of the tank bit N+R. Yes it is Shannon Lush. Love, Lush, very close.

Forgot to say that you should be careful to put it back in the right direction. Some have an arrow indicating direction of water flow. If not a dob of nail polish on one end & the matching pipe will serve as a reminder.

Gary crawled under the van this morning to have a look at the water pipes. He said they were everywhere, too hard basket for him. The van gous in for a service in a couple weeks so will get them to check it. Thanks anyway Cupie. Mmmmmm perhaps I should wriggle under there! Water is behaving itself today. Glenda

Have you checked the small filter at the end of the tap? (If it has one). I cleaned mine out the other day after a month in SA and found it 90% clogged. confuse

Have had the van to Jayco to sort out the water pressure problem. there was a blockage in one of the pipes, apparently took them 3 hours to find the problem, it was under one of the seats.

Best of all they did not charge us for it.

Reason being we had to take the van in for a second time to have some warrenty work done, the first time the wrong parts had been sent from Jayco so it was a month wait.

So all is fixed.

Hello Golivers Travels

We were in Sth Aust Mar/Apr this year (mainly the Yorke Peninsula)and had a similiar problem. I traced the whole mains pressure pipes/hoses, draining them all. I found a fair amount of calcum type particles within the system. It found that when we used the tap the water pressure would force the calcium to build up at the tap filter. When I closed the tap the calcium would fall back into the bottom of the pipe, only to repeat the process when I used the tap again.

I cleaned the hose/pipes and filters and had no more problems.
