If any one is stopping at Injune best to book , it seems the mines have taken over ,we were but down the back with the noise genarators .My goodness what a change since we were last here not many sites for the visitors.
Theres a cheap camp behind the servo at Bauhinia in that area, and it was full of permanents too. The mining industry up there is causing all sorts of accommodation problems, and tourists are at the tail end of consideration. Sad.
It's sad when areas get taken over by workers, we have a similar thing in down town Wonthaggi, Vic with Desal plant construction workers. Ours is temporary thank goodness, about 12 months to go.

You just got in Doug because wombat is away and didn't beat you to it!! But I'm sad to hear that Injune is taken over by miners. It must be about time the mines provied their own accommodation instead of taking all of ours!
As we are planning a trip into central Queensland, we were warned about the mining workers taking over many of the smaller town's accommodations and that it is either difficult to find or very expensive.
It might be appropriate for us to make a 'list' of town's that lack accommodation and don't appear to want nomads to visit and stay for several days. I have heard that Roma, Emerald and Chinchilla also have minimum accommodations due to the mining.
Emerald Caravan Park behind Coles etc shopping centre is ok, well, it was at Christmas. I camped there 1 night. I didn't look at the Nagoa Park as it has a shady reputation. The Lake Maraboon C/Park was lovely. No miners there. It's only about 20kms out of Emerald. Roma has room most of the time. Injune is a sleepy little village but last Christmas I didn't see the evidence of mining take-over. Springsure was a bit busier but I didn't see the park. Clermont is packed most of the time. I have worked up that way a couple of times in the past 12 months and these were my observations at that time.

Management makes the decisions, but is not affected by the decisions it makes.
Carnarvon Gorge is between Injune and Rolleston. Usually room there in winter, except in school hols. Good idea to book though. Well worth a visit if you are in the area. It is about 40 k's off the highway - 12 k's of gravel need to be driven with care, depending on when it was last graded. They usually grade it just before Easter.

Be aware that there is no camping in the Carnarvon Gorge NP except in school hols. There is a caravan park just outside the NP called Takarakka Resort. Its expensive!
Gee, thanks for the support Doug. You'll keep I was actually thinking of Takarakka when I posted, because I said DON,T go in school holidays, which is the only time the National Park Camp area is open.
