Hi Barry & Lee,

We took our Patrol and 18' van across to Tassie a couple of years back,

We spent the previous night camped at the South Willibee Caravan Park, then as we were from the West and had no idea how to get to the Ferry, we did a "Dry Run" with-out the van the day before departure......

"Disaster" thank God we didn't have the van on as we became hopelessly lost.

After many hours of seeing most of Melbourne we finally found our way back to the Caravan Park.

We set off the following morning at 4.00 am (departure time 9.30 pm )

we just made it with 1hr to spare.

As a result of this, on our return trip we got to the ferry terminal in Tassie a full day before departure, placed the Wagon & Van in the que for loading and left it there while strolling around town for the day.

I would suggest you do the same in Melbourne, there's parking at the Terminal, although rather limited so, if you arrive early I would suggest, hop into the que and have a walk around for the day.

Have a great trip, we had a ball in Tassie and will go back again any-time.

Cheers Jim & Jean

hi barry & lee, when we went over to Tassie we drove down to the Terminal at midnite & parked along the seafront there was no parking charge after midnite, there was 3 other vans there too, very safe and a public toilet not far away. we slept for about 5hrs and got in the line up quite near the front and were on the Ferry in no time, had breakfast on board. easy as. Like you we had done a reccie the day before so sussed the parking out etc. Good Luck. Have a great time. regards greyghosts

Barry and Lee, we stayed at the Ashley Gardens Caravan Park in Braybrook, west side of the city. They cater for those travelling on the Spirit, having maps, give directions and answer any queries about bording.

Cheers

Glenda
