Caltex truck stop/servo north side of Marybourough,Qld 1.5% surcharge on credit cards. Also had the two blends of diesel, standard in the truck driveways @ $1.52.9 & premium in the car driveways @ $1.54.9.
We saw the surcharge before we filled up & gave them the flick.

They are not the only ones, have experienced it a number of times whilst travelling and have always left prior to purchase most display these charges on the bowsers.

I usually fill at BP using a BP Mastercard that gives me a 5% cashback. I haven't encountered a surcharge on Visa or MC (yet) but have seen signs on pumps advising a surcharge on Amex, Diners, Fleetcard, etc.
While merchants have the right to put a surcharge on credit transactions, we, as customers, also have the option of taking our business elsewhere and not coming back.
Havn't seen many places with surcharge on MC & Visa but plenty who either have a charge on Amex & Diners or just do not accept them. In my business I stopped accepting Amex and Diners because of the fees they charge and I can understand busineses charging a fee on them but not on MC & Visa, have never noticed if any charge fees on EFTPOS. Woolworths in SA will not allow you to use Visa Debit as a credit card, don't know about other states.
I cancelled my Amex when I retired back in the nineties and likewise my Diners a few years back. I lost a bucket load of FF points on my Diners when Ansett went to the dogs several years ago. I'm not interested in FF points these days as I rarely fly anywhere and last time I did (with Hawaiian/Alaskan) points were no use to me. I have a MC debit card that also serves as an EFTPOS card and can be used as this way to avoid surcharges.
went to get gas just south of maryborough yesterday and it was 16cents a litre dearer than sunshinecoast so only put enough to get me back to coast, now thats a rip off!!!!
We were in WA in 08, found some woolies charged & some did not.
I made a complaint about it & actually had a spokes person call me back on the matter, to explain that some servo's were only selling fuel for woolies, not owned by woolies & they were the ones charging the surcharge.
She even posted me out a full list of servo's in WA that were woolies fuel, stated which ones were owned & those that wern't.I made it even easier, gave them all the flick.

While they charge more for the Vortex Diesel, I don't think they should be charging more/less between the truck hi-flow pumps and the car pumps. That doesn't sound legal to me. I haven't come across that anywhere, yet. I usually use the hi-flow pump because even controlling the flow is faster than the little hand piece. Something else to watch for. Maybe the prices and consumers would be interested in that little practice.

Chris, the truck hiflow was the standard diesel, car driveway was the vortex @ 2cents dearer. This is a huge servo with truck area seperate from the cars.
Woolies in bundy today was $1 52 for vortex.

I don't use Vortex. I can't justify the extra cost for the super dooper diesel. Rosy has been running on regular diesel all her life, with a taste of Vortex Super just for a change, once. The driveway pump placement configuration and pricing causes the average motorist costly confusion. That's why I use the truckies pumps.

If the oz dollar is down 13% , then why doesn,t the price of fuel drop the same amount? Someone is profiteering. On Magnetic is, we pay $1.76 for diesel, and they sell 25000 ltrs a week , and it costs 10c a ltr to get to the island, which leaves a 16c profit for someone. 25000 x 16c is $4000! not bad for a weeks work.Bill
