Each time I log on I check to see how many members are on line. It confuses me - a lot of the names I see as being 'online' never seem to post comments. We seem to have only a few contributing members. Why?
Been reading posts here for some time but don't see any point posting for the sake of posting. I would post if I had something to contribute or a question..
Keith 19837 here, I've just posted an intro and another newbie 'Rickry' has done the same. I think were using the wrong page though as I can't seem to work out 'where' I am. Is this the right page to be on at the moment?
Many have been engrossed in QandA on Aunty.. a good show tonight included David Marr, Bazza Humphries and Miriam Margolies. I get the feeling lots of our mob(GNs) would have enjoyed it; try to look at a replay.
And that got some of the quieter ones out there 'posting'. Good to hear from you. When I first joined I read more than I posted but then I realised that a forum becomes a forum when people take part so I started posting. One day I will enjoy meeting the people who have posted. It was good to meet Briche - I'd been reading their posts before I met them. I once told my kids I would join Facebook to see what they were doing and was promptly told that would be stalking. So what's the difference between 'stalking' and 'lurking'? (By the way, I didn't join FB - kids told me I wouldn't want to know and even they don't read it much these days either.)
Hi, Keith 19837 here. I'm pretty new (about one day) and I'm finding that I must be posting incorrectly. When I reply to a welcome or ask a question, it seems that everyone is somewhere else. I'm assuming that each screen doesn't 'auto add' and one has to go out to another page and then come back via the forum index. Am I doing this correctly or is there some easier way than leaving the page, going to the forum index and then returning; or is that the the correct way to do it? I hope I'm explaining myself properly here.

Hi Keith, I have clicked on quote in your posting to get this here. Will try and explain a few things. Firstly you don't have to explain who you are every time you post, your name and details are to the side of every post you make.
Secondly there may be no one on to reply to your post. They could be off doing other things. When you are on the front page of Grey Nomads Forum you can scroll down and see who is on line. If you hold the mouse over their name you can see which topic they are in.
Thirdly when you have finished reading or writing in a particular topic you go to either the top or the bottom of the thread and close to see what is now available for you to read. If you have your settings set up right it will give you all the unopened (new) ones at the top for you to find first.
If you click on Grey Nomads Forum it will give you a list of all topics, you go into the one you want to peruse and open the one of interest.
Or you can go into just one of the topics, say Solo or Techies Corner and peruse through there looking for ones of interest.
Don't be afraid to ask, we have all been there and all had to learn from the start.
I didn't quite follow your problem Keith, not sure where the somewhere else is that everyone goes to.
If you want to reply to an existing thread you can do it in one of three ways:
1. Just start typing in the 'Quick Reply' which is at the bottom of the screen when you are reading a thread (which is what I have done here). When you are finished, click the 'Post Quick Reply' button at the bottom of the screen.
2. If you want to add pictures or emoticons, or use editing such as bolding or italics, click on the 'Reply' box in ANY posting (it doesn't have to be the latest post in the thread). You will be taken to a new screen, type your message in the big blank box then click on (relying on memory here...) the 'Post Reply' (?) button at the bottom of the screen.
3. If you want to include the contents of an existing post in your reply, click on the 'Quote' button for that post. You wil be taken to the same screen as in method 2 above, but instead of being blank the box will contain the other post. Place your cursor at the bottom of this box and add your new comments underneath the text for the existing post (that's a lot less confusing for everyone else who will read it).
In all cases, once you have posted your reply you should see the thread again with your post at the bottom.
It took me a while Keith (and I've just learnt more from Nicholstones reply) but like everything else, the more you use it the easier it will be. And just ask - as you see - someone will always be able to help. As Happy Wanderer said, there might not be always be someone there straight away either. Like last night, all watching Q&A!!!
