Mate, gardens dont grow in winter!!!
From experience I can say the only bl**dy things that do grow are weeds!! biggrin

My next door neighbour is in Queensland and I am looking after their garden for them until Mid August.

You are not wrong GD. Even in the driest of conditions the plants etc die off but not those mongrel weeds they keep on popping their heads out.

Don't forget to switch off the lights when you leave Victoria! wink

After you've left Victoria you'll cross that well known river that's in NSW but near Vic. It's called the Murray.

PS: Another way to pick the Vicwegians is they're the ones that swim and sunbake in conditions that would freeze the cannon balls off a brass monkey! confuse

I am only in victoria to see a grandaughter born which was yesterday 2.35kg tiny. Why anybody want to live here full time. I have no idea

There are three of us still in Victoria but not for long.......IM OFF TO DARWIN TUESDAY. Whoo hoo!!!! When I get they're I'll be the one with the windows open I'm sure...

I will be in Victoria soon as I don't go to Qld as I worked there for 10 years and after the debarkle with the CP's and camp sites I decide to stay south of the border. Lots of Australia to see and so few years.

Aw... Victorias not so bad in summer, lovely long hot days etc. Trouble is, in summer it fills up with northerners escaping the Wet.

Ha Ha i remember before we started this nomad life we had spent the last 30 years in Townsville and used to laugh at all the victorians in their shorts and t-shirts in winter, you could pick them out a mile off, we had our winter clobber on, jeans and flanno, that came off at about 11am, but we still had to wear our winter gear. Now we are house sitting in Brunswick junction 160ks south of Perth and we have "proper" winter gear its Blooooooody cold but hey its a beautiful part of the world and the heater works well. Have fun in beautiful nth qld.

I remember being in a caravan park once....some kids walked down the side of our van one night saying ......."victoria...the place to pee" !! They all ran off very quickly giggling !! Put a smile on our face :)

There is only one word left out of the Victorian slogan... thats "from" it should read "The place to be from" lol.. I know I was born there, but couldnt leave quickly enough

I'm still here too in cold drab Victoria hopefully by next winter Ill be able to join the masses in Qld

Pauline you might not have much sunshine at the moment but its a damn sight warmer than it is here. Hope all is going well for you and you're enjoying the Mackay area smile

Unfortunately we are home in Victoria this winter also. Finding the cold a bit difficult to take after not being home last winter. BUT we will be heading north next year! Glenda

I have only been a Victorian for 12 yrs and I don't find it bad at all. I havent even worn my overcoat since living here. I love Victoria as a state. There is so much to do here. Great food, great music, theatre, everything is so close (unlike NSW). I remember when I first moved here, my first winter everyone at work was complaining about it being cold. I asked if it had got to -12 yet and had their pipes frozen overnight......
After living 50km outside th ACT and growing up in Sydney where everybody pretends it isn't cold in winter and just wears a cardigan to work. Freezing while waiting for their train, wears open toed shoes in winter !!!! The houses only seemed to have a two bar radiator in the loungroom if you were lucky. Compared to my childhood in New South and living in the Tinderry rankges a Victorian winter is a doddle.
It's what you are acclimatized to I guess.

Other than living in a little mining town near Tennant Creek for 18 months in the early 80's, I've only ever lived in SEQ. Mostly in Logan.

My Dad was born in Swan Hill. He and his new bride lived there for the first two years of married life. The only thing Mum liked about Vic was their football.

I've only been to Victoria a few times in my life, but I'm looking forward to having a good roam around in October/November. Marj tells me that's the best time of the year to visit, so I hope the weather will be kind to us.

I would have to disagree with HW here I am afraid. The wettest time of year, certainly in Melbourne anyway, is in the Spring, lovely sunny warm to hot days interspersed with God awful cold wet WINDY days, remember Melbourne Cup Day a few years ago? A change came through just after the big race and it turned from warm and bright to sleeting, freezing cold and blowing a gale in a matter of minutes, the TV was full of it. That's Melbourne in the Spring.

The best time to visit is the early Autumn, the possible 40 degree days of Summer are gone, almost every day is warm, sunny and very pleasant. That's why all the festivals are held in March, just check out Melbourne's calendar. This lasts up until Easter, after that Wintery days become more likely.

Actually, I think Marj said November. We decided to leave in early October to be touring Vic in Nov and home by early Dec.

But that news is a bit of a bugga Nicholstones! Oh well, we figured to just be prepared for any weather anyway, which is what is usually said about Vic. And we're organised for October departure now.
