just a question we are looking to get reversing sensers/camera for the car and heard that u can add one for the van as well. we want it for the car as we have a nisson st 4/4 and when reversing cant see out the back
for people who have them what have you got where did you get it from and how much
Hi Margaret, I have just bought one from Jarcar and had it fitted. They were on special last week. I can see quite well on the screen but need a little practice with it. Have not tried to hitch up the van with it yet. It seems odd looking at the screen and not behind while reversing. Tess
I have one on my Patrol and on my van any auto elec can connect it up if you can not but make sure you do not connect it up so you only use it in reverse make it free so you can see what is behind you while driving
We had one on our Navara & 23' Caravan, we bought it from Polaris over the net. When we sold that van I sold the cameras from the car as well and bought a new system for the car & van from Brash Imports. I installed both systems myself but I had it to come on when I wanted it too, not just when in reverse.
Gday, there are a lot of reverse cameras available with the polaris being one of the most expensive and not noticeably better than many of the cheaper ones, there bare heaps advertised on ebay within Australia and I suggest you look seriously at a hard wired system rather than wireless types which are prone to breakdown and interference.
A five inch screen on which you can adjust contrast and colour as well as a camera that has 92 degrees of vision is more useful than a camera with 120 degrees.
Any auto electrician should be able to connect it up for you but if you have some basic skills and equipment it is fairly straight forward and took me about half a day to wire up car and van.

Happily doing both to the Max.
Life is like a camera, focus on what's important & you will capture it every Time
iv had different ones in sat navs, there own screen, just got one in the rear view mirror with 2 channels 1 for the car 1 for the van . i didnt get the 1 with sensors as i look in the screen you can see so y bother. also run a driving camera out the front
Hi my hubby put them on the ute, as he put a colourbond canopy on the back and that cut the vision, he put 2 cameras on, one is for reversing out of parking bays etc, and the other is for backing in to hook the van up. He can also turn one of the cameras to see up the road not just straight out behind. We bought them on ebay for about $30 thats 2 cameras, screen and all connecting wires etc luckily he is very good with his hands so connected it all up himself, been over 2 years since he fitted it and all is good so far.
Please, please, please DO NOT rely on your camera solely for rear vision. You MUST have towing mirrors when towing. The range of vision of the camera alone is not enough for rear vision. I'm still disgusted at the lack of towing mirrors being used, or the small, ineffective mirrors used as towing mirrors. You must be able to see down both sides of your van and beyond, and the fog line and white line in your viewing range.

This is a legal as well as a common sense requirement.
i agree with you CG. i find it helpful to have it but off-putting looking ahead when I'm reversing. it is handy for that last little bit when your not sure quite how close you are. also to see for hitching. i had an auto electrician fit mine margaret. afraid my talents don't extend to that. i bought it from Jaycar.
While I know we must have mirrors, it seems there are those out there who are not aware of this law, or choose to ignore it because they're special, and their driving skills are better than everyone else's. NOT! You'd be surprised at the number of rigs aren't equipped with towing mirrors. Some don't have cameras or mirrors, or just a reversing camera with a small scope of vision. So if anyone is setting up from scratch, there is some good advice here.

I thought about that also but found hitching guides at the Auski Roadhouse WA - one set left there! only cost $10 because they couldnt read the price Dosent help with seeing behind the caravan but great to hitch up as a solo nomad!
