An adventure

Just been involved in a train mishap (derailment) on the Ravenshoe-Tumolin line.  I'm OK  About 100 passengers No one hurt but I had to walk a good few kms back to the nearest railway station including crossing a high trestle bridge. WOW what an adventure.

Good to hear no one hurt. Much damage to the train? Also the line?

I guess they'll want to get it back in service asap to earn some revenue in the tourist season.

The line is a bit damaged (lots of sleepers smashed to matchsticks) & the engine (although not derailed) can't be moved because the flat buffers - well one of them has gone behind the buffer on the first carriage. Police, SES all here. The site is now being inspected by Transport Dept & railway volunteers aren't able to access the site for now. A lot of people were brought back to Ravenshoe in the section cars. They did a few trips to get them all back. Apparently not long after I'd crossed the trestle bridge the policed arrived to the site & wouldn't let any more people cross it.

Well your experience certainly puts another level to "adventure". Good to hear everyone escaped unhurt, but a bit disappointing you couldn't finish the trip.
Which train is that? Where does it travel to and from?

Glad all is well, wonder what caused the derailment? its very popular train with visitors, It leaves Ravenshoe and travels to Toumulin, its only a tourist train and run by volunteers so hope all is sorted out soon, but very lucky no injuries.

Yes it is a small steam train. This will be a blow for the volunteers & the tourist trade

Phew! Thankful that you are fine, even had a long walk. Take it easy for a while now, and regain your composure.

At first I was thinking your lovely motorhome was involved. So glad to hear you are OK and had the 'excitement' ? of walking over that trestle bridge!
