Need some help please. I know this is a strange subject in the middle of winter, but would like to know if anyone has an air conditioner on their pop top roof.

If so, do they work well??

What size would i need for a 16ft van??

As with everything, i suppose there are the good brands and the ones to be avoided??

Most roof top a/c are to heavy for a poptop, there was one especially made for the poptop but I cannot recall what brand it was. They used to make an under floor a/c for vans but they had heaps of trouble with them and stopped producing them so I am told.

We have a Truma Climaster reverse cycle air con in our 15.5' van. These units are for the smaller vans i.e. up to about 16'. http://caravansplus.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=6486

Ours was installed under one of the café seats as the van was built and has 3 outlets throughout the van. It quiet rapidly cools the van down in 37C heat, and the heating cycle is good but not as good as a diesel heater.

The downside, besides requiring 240v, is that it does take up a fair amount of storage space plus when running flat out it is a bit noisy outside, particularly in the still of the night, but not too bad at half speed.
