furious furious CANNOT BE JUSTIFIED !! I would not mind paying a bond, because i know my dog behaves, and i am a responsible owner, so i will get my bond back. I would class ANY PARK that charges for a dog, As Dog UN- friendly, and they would not get my business !! at all, I would just let them know, that not only do they miss out on the $6 for my dog for say 5 nights [ $30] they would also miss out on what ever they normally charge for me and the Mrs. And on princable ??? even if they decided to drop the dog charge, I would NOT stay there, disbelief furious

It still goes ''against the grain'' to me, I would rather they charged another dollar a night on the normal fee, and leave the dog out of the equasion ??

WHY ?? take the chance of someone not stopping at YOUR park for the sake of $1 per night, does not make good business sense to me ???

I find this disgusting If it is allowed to go on then there is no stopping those greedy Councils from charging us for the Air that we breath.....I emailed this Council and told them that I would in future be bypassing their Region...That should scare the pants off them...I called myself Billeee.

So what is the chage for?

My dogs use no electricity, nor do they avail themselves of the showers or toilets.

I have never seen them use the camp kitchen.

I do pick up after them, and this might be worth a dollar a day, if the park manager wants to take over that. Not sure how I would cope though, because it's a habit now, and I don't think I could leave droppings on the ground.

Maybe its for a dog sitting service while we sightsee. That would be nice.

I have come across a couple of campgrounds that do this and 2 that come to mind are Neurum Creek and Borumba Deer Park....both in SEQ.

I might also add they charge more than $1 per night and they charge a bond as well. Needless to say, I do not frequent them at all.

I am a dog lover but don't travel with a dog very often,only when I take my son and the mutt on short trips.

It peeves me to say this but I don't like most CP's.

I find those that are well run with good facilities and GOOD managers are easy to spot.They are the ones that look neat and tidy and normally fairly full.They are the ones I will stop at.

The others,well we all know about those ones and how they are run.

I ask the question,if CP's want your business why don't they supply what people need and want.

With dogs,why do they not supply a dump point for dog waste the composting type so that they can use the resulting compost on the gardens.

Supply DooDoo bags and have water troughs for the animals to have drinking water.

Why charge extra for a dog? How many travel with their dogs as 'family' members.

Yes there will be some who abuse the system,but that goes for everything these days.Don't spoil it for the majority who do the right thing.

I would suggest the numbers would be even higher if the CP's catered for the public and what they want.

the emerald big 4 next to the golf course charged me $60 in case my dog barked ,next morning alady?was shooting birds out of a tree at the front of her permanant van with an air rifle,then again im only a tourist

I would dodge them along with the ones that don't take dogs. Maybe they have more business than they need?

It seems to me that these CP's may have had trouble in the past. Not everyone is as good about their dogs as my fellow GN's are.

Also, I know a few people in the area, and I'm told that Bundaberg Council in general is being money grubbing. But they won't fix the bl**dy flooding problems at Bargara! disbelief

The caravan park I am at at the moment charge a $20 bond ask why, and they said make sure people kept their dogs under control if they don't they lose their bond

You wont have to worry about it for long as all parks are now full of mine & construction workers. they have turned their backs on the tourists so we need to remember this when the boom is over.

Chinchilla c/p has no caravan sites, all dongers for the workers. Gladstone area has no sites or accomadition of any kind.

The free camps are crowded, need to be in early.

We have been lucky and had no trouble with our dog and parks, mind you she can fit into both hands so very small. smile

We came around the top in outer season so all the free camps were EMPTY, sure missed seing people to talk to and happy hour. cry

I think we should start a section on this site that tell every one were the van parks are that charge for pets! biggrin

Oh that is a really good idea *grin*. My dog fits into my lap as well but he thinks he is a Rottweiler lol and stands up to them as well, very funny to watch lol

The reference should probably go in the "recommendations" section.
I suppose they could be charging for doggy doo bags. Otherwise I could only think it applies to the lazy, dirty dog owners who dont' clean up after themselves and their pets.
The park I'm in allows dogs for casual tenants, but permanents are not meant to have dogs. A couple have slipped their puppy in as long-termers, and stayed longer.
There are a few cats and budgies around the place, but after seeing rainbow lorikeets and other wildlife around here it seems a shame to cage anything.
There are also a few hares in the hrse paddocks behind the park.
Suburbs on one side, country on the other, with a view to Outer Harbour.

I don't mind paying a bond, as I know I'll get it back, no problem.

If the CP want to use their time to take and guard my money till I leave, that's their problem. Just gives them another job to do, in my mind.

But I can't see what the basis is for an accomodation charge for a dog, when no facilities are either provided or used by the animal.

I personally don't see it as a recommendation but it is not my call to make. Just so long as we all know where it is, that is the important issue.

Wouldn't it be better put in the Travelling with Pets section and made a Sticky so it stays at the top. I thought that was why they had the different sections already.

I've never seen a poorly behaved dog causing problems in a caravan park. NOW POORLY BEHAVING CHILDREN, that's a different story. There should be a bond for bratts not dogs or cats.
