Lake Eyre on TV tonight. Friday 8/6/12

Yeah its some really awesome country up here. But Handy Wanderer don't be affraid to try and come. Its not that difficult really. The roads are really good (they are bitumen) getting to Lyndhurst which is only 80klm's souht of Marree which is pretty much the closest town to get to see lake eyre. The last 80klm's is a gravel road, but is almost a highway without a bitumen seal. Yes at times there are a few bumps etc, depending on recent weather, and maintainence. But the road crews based here in town do a pretty good job keeping it open and in good condition.

Don't ever say one day. Get out there and check it out. And if the van in your profile picture is your means of transport, it will definately make it, unless it has rained in the last few days. We get two wheel drive cars here all the time. We even had a near new jag up here last season. Just drive to the conditions and you will be fine.

On Channel 10 tonight on The Living Room, Dr Chris Brown, the vet, is doing a story on Lake Eyre.

Thought it would be very interesting for the many of us who will never get a chance to go there ourselves.

Thanks Marj, I too will be watching if I can get it here and I have been there twice and flown over once.  Great experience, one I will never forget....especially paddling in the water in 2009.

You can camp pretty much anywhere along the Oodnadatta Track, including the old railway sidings.

Maree itself has free camping at the pub with toilets and hot showers for $2.00 from memory.

Farina Ruins has a great little campground as well.....flush toilets, hot showers (via a wood fired donkey) and all for $5.00 per person per night.
