Cameron Corner Country

For some time I have wanted to visit Cameron Corner but do not have a suitable vehicle.   As a pensioner with those four free NSW Rail passes, I have decided to do one of those Countrylink Round the Corner to Back of oBourke tours.  biggrin

As I am currently staying in Coffs Harbour -it will be a lot of train travel but still an adventure.  I will be stayng a night in Sydney in both directions and will be visiting Milparinka, Depot Glen, Tiibooburra, Cameron Corner and finish in Bourke. confuse

The main thing about doing a trip/tour like this is that I wont have to worry about vehicle problems, where to go or stay or that I might miss something.  I dont like to take chances and the older I get the more I believe in doing things safely as much as possible.

At the conclusion  of the trip, I will let everyone know how it went and the conditions in that area.  smile

Looks like a great trip. You're really making good use of your passes. Take warm clothes it can get cold overnight, nice during the day.

That sounds like a great way of going there Anvid! It was hard work getting there for us! They sell a great burger at the Corner store, and we still have the souvenir number plate on the front of the Prado to cover the winch.
Enjoy!

Great idea Anvid....you'll love every minute of your adventure and do remember those thermal unders if you are going soon.

Finn at the Corner Pub does a great bacon and egg burger, definitely recommend it.

When you go to Bourke, make sure you go and see the old Crossley diesel engine at the wharf.....they try and do a working demo every day.

Oh and don't forget to take the camera.

What a great plan! Good for you. All you have to do it sit back and enjoy the country as it slides by. Enjoy!

Anvid, your trip sounds just great.  Would be interested to know where you found the information re your trip as I would consider doing the same thing.  Is there information on the web somewhere as I would like to know, is there a limit to how far you can travel on your train pass and the cost, and if you can break your trip and resume it after stopping off to visit certain areas of interest.  Any information would be appreciated.  Thanks, June

Thank-you for all the postive feedback on my trip.   Barina has attached a link to  Countrylink which gives information on Pensioner's free travel.   We are entitled to four free trips (vouchers) per calendar year within New South Wales.

I am informed that a 'free trip' is from the start of your journey to the end of your trip and that you can have stop-overs in route.  For example, I am in Coffs Harbour and have to go via Sydney and overnight before continuing to Broken Hill. This is considered as one trip or voucher.

There is no charge for an economy ticket however I have decided to splurge and go 1st class from Sydney to Broken Hill and from Dubbo to Sydney.  That will cost me $45.15.  As I have never travelled first class before, I thought I would indulge this time.  biggrin

As for the tour - I saw it advertised in a Countrylink Brochure called "Outback New South Wales" on page 9.  smile
