Some little time ago we saw on TV where truckies were installing cameras that shows 'idiot' drivers that cause alsorts of problems for other folk on the roads - well, yesterday on our way up the north coast of NSW, we had one such P-plate driver that overtook us with another vehicle coming in the opposite direction - quite scary stuff I don't mind telling you, and Pete suggested we would have to look for one of the cameras. Has anyone else heard of them, and where we might be able to purchase one. I understand that the footage could be very handy if you have an accident and need the evidence for a claim or whatever.

I fitted one of the VisionDrive ones a couple of months ago, 8000HDS model.
It shows the gps readings, the speed being travelled, you can convert the files to AVI files, bottom right shows where you are, using Google maps, in the config icon you can specify the Shock Sensor Settings, say you leave you car in a shopping centre car park and somebody hits your car, this unit will record @ 4 FPS when it was hit and maybe get the car rego IF your car gets hit from the front or back (if you have the rear camera option).
Great little unit, see attached pic

Hello from Scotland, I read your post and can say from experialce a BIG YES to having one in your vehicle. I put one in my VW and would you believe it but less than a month of fitting it I was going home when a truck COMINT towards me had his load fall off all over my car doing a lot of damage. I called the cops bu as I live way out in the country they were having a tough time attending. I told them no injuries and the other driver and I would sort it out. I contacted my insurers and the trucks insurers and when they asked if I had any witnesses I said no but I had a video of the whole thing in colour and with sound they accepted 100 percent liability right there. My own insurers said they have never had such a fast admission of liability and wanted to know more about mu system. Well here goes, the first one cost about 65 us Dollars and I told my friend in the US and I said I would get him one for his birthday. When I came to order his one the price was now about 30 us Dollaars so I bought two of them. I went to eBay and sakes for car video recorders and got the same as I bought for my first one. They are a great investment but I do not think GPS and speed are necessary as you can get a good idea of the speed from the play back and you can easily see where the incident happened. Go for it and get one you will never regret it.
