Water getting in tug cabin "update"

Well after many weeks now it looks like problem solved. There is a largish, about 75mm rubber seal on the engine side of the firewall on the driver side basically in the corner next to the right hand side with wires going through into the cabin, well, it hadn't been put back in place properly when all the work had been done earlier in the year so water was running of the windscreen down into that area and in through what should have been sealed.

I was at my daughter's place this afternoon for lunch and her, her partner and myself got stuck into tracking down the problem. Three heads were better than one. Oh, and younger eyesight under the dash area.

Just another thing that idiot mechanic didn't do properly. Thank goodness there are good mechanics around. He's not one of them.

Thanks everyone for your help.

We've now discovered we have a wet floor in the XTrail and it also may have been happening since it was serviced - hopefully future son-in-law mechanic can help us track it down. Wonder if it is a rubber seal? Have read your posts with interest in case we have the same problem. Only discovered the wet floor when I lifted the mat out to shake it.

Thank god it wasn't the plenum box!!!  Glad you got it sorted, after your original post; I thought I'ld better  attend to mine and found a bit of blockage.   I was thinking about your problem whilst cleaning mine out.  Oopps.   God should have had a capital 'G'.   Sorry God.

Just keep indoors next time lightening is around Keith and thanks for you help, I'm just drying out the carpet now. It was soaked underneath. The floor of the car seems OK though.

Still haven't found the cause of our leak. We keep putting towels under the floor mat.

Dougwe, you are lucky he at least ran the wiring through the grommet. I have seen cases where the grommet was pushed out to make room for the wiring harness that was just pushed through the hole beside the grommet.

The wires were going in the side an under the grommet troopy, so maybe I was one of those unlucky ones. At least I have found it. I have made a temporary fix until my mechanic has the car next as I didn't want to start mucking around with wires and cause another problem, that or the auto sparky as I will have it with him soon.

Once the leak is stopped wash the floor under carpet/mat with strong water & vinagar mix. will get rid of musty smell and stop mould growing. also spary bottom of carpet/mat with same mix. IT WORKS
