Hi Everyone, Thank for the your previous advice. This Forum has proved to be very valuable to Mark and Myself. It has helped us along our journey. We have stayed in about 50/50 Free Camps and Caravan Parks. I never thought I would say this but.... most of the free parks have been better than the paid ones. We had a particularly bad experience with a place in Cloncurry that crammed us in like sardines. Anyway the good and bad experiences make a trip. We have made it up to Burke Town and are staying a couple days. We hope to get some fishing done. But the wind is horrible at the moment. This town has been a nice surprise to us. We hope to meet some of you at some time. We are in a Modcon Camper with a boat on top. It's kind of different so keep your eye out for us and say hi if you recognise us. Cheers Graysen and Mark.
Hi Graygun, sounds like a great time, we will be in Burktown around July 28th 29th, If your looking for a nice camp{not free} try "Escott lodge" just a few Klms out of town, good camping, dog friendly, good fishing / crabing, small resturant, swimming pool Anyway keep it safe

I was under the impression that Escott had been closed but my information may be unreliable and possibly out of date.
Cupie, Your painting might be worth something . As Burketown has no pub now. It burn't down in March and hasn't been replaced as yet. It's very windy here again. So I think that is Burketown done and dusted for us. We move on tomorrow. Towards Hell's Gates. Cheers ....

Happy travels .. wish I was there too.
Bloody cold here in Brissy ... almost single figures overnight.
Graygun, if you have not previously been there, I recommend that you detour a bit south to visit Lawn Hill National Park. You could come south from Burketown to Gregory Downs, thence to Lawn Hill. There is a great campground at Adels Grove, but phone at this time of year to check they have space. Then you could rejoin the Savannah Way by going north through Lawn Hill Station and either Doomadgee or Kingfisher Camp/Bowthorn.
Thanks everyone we are now in Borooloola. I would have loved to have gone to Lawn Hill and Gregory Downs. But Mark just wouldn't take the hints I was dropping. I should have been more firm....LOL>. So we did a huge drive. So hopefully another time.
Please can you add the state when mentioning places. Not all of us have been around Aus just yet so are not familiar with a lot of regions. We can google place names but it would be much easier if the poster helped us out.
What was your opinion of Doomadgee? Have a friend who has just started working there with the RFDS. Flies out from Cairns each week for 3 or 4 days.
Your friend is in for an interesting time! Worked there for a (short) while, years ago. I would be curious to find out how your friend experiences it. At least, only coming in from Cairns for some of each week, they will get a break from the place.
Things I remember most: never getting an unbroken night's sleep because we had a "party house" over the road; having to pay heaps for groceries - and a very limited selection it was too; despairing at the seemingly insurmountable problems that existed in the community.
