Can anybody shed some light on this. My sons laptop spacebar won't work. I have been all over it and my own looking for an answer.

I think something might have been knocked and caused it to stop working but can't work out which button might rectify it.

thanks for any advice.

I don't know if this is the cause on your laptop, but I find certain keys 'stick' part way down (they look like they're in the usual position).  Sometimes a bit of grit or other foreign object gets stuck.   I use a 'soft' brush to get the dust, fluff, sharks whatever out every now and then.   For what it's worth.

I did look at that possibility but maybe not hard enough. Are the keys able to be taken off separately? Maybe that shark's got his teeth into it!

Thanks gst. I did go into Toshiba website this arvo to see if there was anything there about the spacebar not working. Couldn't find anything. Will go back and have a look as to how to get the keyboard off. Everything else on his laptop is working ok, just not the spacebar.

You can replace the keyboard, and they aren,t hard to remove. ebay should have a replacement at a reasonable price, but see if you can blow any grit from under it first.A computer shop usually has a can of compressed air to clean boards and keyboards , so if you is clse , try them. Bill

I don't think he is into replacing the keyboard Bill. Will have another go at the spacebar. I lost my letter s before. Would not work. I flicked each corner and blew some air in under the key and now its working fine.
Think I will go upstairs and have another go on his spacebar.

The keypad on my laptop decided it didn't want to play anymore.
Was quoted aprox $80 to supply & fit a new one.

Easiest & cheapest way out was by purchasing a wire-less k/board & mouse

"Logitech" is the brand name.nothing wrong with their products.
Only about $30 from a " Big W" shop.
Hope this is of some help.

Regards Jeff

Actually now reading your posts. If I can't get it going again, I have a spare keyboard I brought up with me and don't use it as don 't have a computer desk here. He does upstairs so could use my spare keyboard.
Thanks for the reminder.

Had a google and unfortunstely seems to be a common fault/problem with toshiba
Only appeared to be 2 fixes suggested
1 use a can of compressed air to blow out any dust etc
2 replace keyboard

in the mean time go online and buy a new keyboard so that it is ready for when sil arrives, the dust blowing spray can will only move the dust around and the problem will come back later down the track, keyboard exchange is the best option

No way, wombat. I think I have spent enough money on maintenance around here. If he wants a new keyboard he can buy his own.

So far I've had all the plumbing fixed, had the dog fixed microchipped vaccinated and wormed. Replaced the element in the hot water system and a few other things that are not my responsibility.
