when I went to Undara I stayed in Mt Surprise and stayed at the Bedrock Caravan Park, they do tours from the park and will dog sit your dog while you are away.
I read somewhere some recommendations for people traveling with their dog when they want to viait the Undara Lava Tubes.
For the life of me, I cannot remember what the recommendations were. Can someone please assist with this?
Same here, we've just been to BEDROCK VILLAGE CP at Mount Surprise and can't recommend it enough, for facilities, location and friendliness.
We did the all day tour which was tiring but very well worth it. Everything is thrown in including morning tea, a walk up Kalkani crater, then five lava tubes, lunch at Undara Experience and afternoon tea. It includes a guide although our guide had only been on the job for three weeks they'd trained him well and if he didn't know something he just said instead of bull****ting.
We left our 4 yr old shih tzu with the park for the day. He did get a walk in the middle of it but he was tied up at the reception area for most of the time. Also, if you don't want them to give him / her snacks or treats tell them or leave your own. We made the mistake of not telling them and although they were trying to look after our little fella he was sick the next day. They allow you to leave your dog in the van if you'd prefer and they'll check on the dog. We prefer not to do that.
Was a bit disappointed with the care (tied to a tree) but in the middle of nowhere there are not many options. BUT, had we had more time I think I would have approached others and asked to do a swap dog sit as most other people on the CP at the time seemed to have dogs with them.
All up though if you think your dog will stand a day being tied up its a good option, and I'm sure they don't just abandon them ALL day. We would not repeat it, not the park's fault, just we had not realised that it was such a lack of care. Our fault, NOT theirs.
we stayed at bedrock village and as we had already seen the tubes we looked after a friend or ours dog, while we were there I asked the reception lady if I could take the dog for a walk that was tied up to a post in the sun outside her office and she said ok, took it for a walk and we both enjoyed it.
