Wingman

Can anyone tell me if the Wyngard add-on, 'the wingman' is worth the money.

Close to a city I get all the digital and analogue signals. In the bush I pick up weak analogue signals. To my mind, if there arn't any signals to be had- you ain't going to get them.

...and no I'm not going to invest in a satellite system. Telly's not that important to me.

You can purchasd the upgrade for around $250 or get the full complete unit

Have seen a few of them but not had a chance to chat the owners

Hi Grahame

I scrapped my wyngard antenna for a saturn which I like bacause it has 34db of amplifier and will pick up vertical and horizontal tv signals without me having to do anything.

if the signal I get on that is crappy I get the sat dish out

As I understand it the wingman will improve your UHF reception slightly but will not help at all if the signal is vertically polarized.

rural area TV reception is crappy at best most of the time which is why we prefer the sat system most of the time.

I am sure there are others on this forum who will explain the tech stuff better than I can. I have related our experiences over 15 years of caravanning.

I have the Saturn as well but find it very directional. Saturn claim it is omni directional. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

We have seen a lot of vans on this trip with the new digital  wynguard system, uses the original mast & winding system but has a new top section.

It is a two peice unit, best way to describe it is that it looks a butterfly shape with a bow tie in the centre, one vertical & one horizontal & white in colour.

Owners said it is the latest system.

Buggar .... looks like my wingman is out of date already.

I have the older type that just plugs into the base of the existing head.  Good value at around $50 trade price when I got it.

Seems to work well but have no real data to verify its performance.

Not sure that I would spend the $s on the latest array.  Would probably look at the saturn instead ... but I won't.  Happy with the current one & can adjust it for vertical oriented signals.

Not that much  into TV when on the road.
