How does everyone keep track of good places to stay.

Hi

Wondering how you keep a track of the good places to camp you come across or hear about in an organised way.

I'm hopeless at organisation. POIs on a GPS, I haven't found a way to do that, mine is a Kogan, not even sure if it is possible.

I have a copy of Camps Australia (not the latest) & I just add any camp spot of find or hear about onto the appropriate page

As well as Camps Australia Wide. I bought a pile of cheap exercise books and have one for each state. If someone mentions a good one on here I write it in the appropriate book, any details they might mention and also who it was who recommended it.
Have been a bit slack lately so must get cracking and update now all the family have gone and on my own for a while.

That is exactly what I do, when somebody recommends a place I mark it in my Camps book.  When we get out there on the road I will mark places that we like as well.  It is a great way to keep track in my opinion as that book will be a permanent part of our travels.

I have a book that is divided into A - Z sections.

I write all recommendations in there and also when we stop for fuel, i also make a note if the town has LPG,

or a supermarket, or just a nice place to pull over for a cuppa. I am sure we shall pass through some of

these towns again, so i will have some info before we get there.

My method is to enter all the interesting places in an Alphabetical note book complete with G.P.S. Co-ordinates for future reference.

Easy to use and pass on the information to other friends.

My wife keeps a daily diary and we film a lot of places and write a trip report at the end of our travels.

It is all fairly simple and we keep the report and video or dvd. together in one package.

Works for us.

I'm still old fashioned enough to use a .... wait for it  ....... Road Atlas (Hema of course).

When some one tells me about a 'good spot' or i discover a goodie or baddie or even somewhere I might like to stay in the future, I write it on the relevant map.

After 14 years you aught to see the map ... go to be careful & write in the margins where possible.

Being a CP dweller, I usually pick up a map of likely van parks & mark them with our prefered sites & other 'usefull' info.  These are kept in a presentation folder.

You should see my paper maps, Hema too. So much sticky tape holding them together, time I bought new ones.

we also keep a record in our Camps bible, you should also keep a record of the places that are not so good, so that you don't go back there again, but make sure you mark those places well, not like us, we looked at our Camps book a while back and said to our friend, no don't go there that place is a dump, when they came back home they said they had a good time at the place we told them was a dump, turns out the place also had a dump point, that was the reason we listed it as a dump, in future will be more specific and list the as dump points.biggrin

I use my camps book as well but I have a color code for forum recommended and traveler recommended as well as notes when I have any or if I visit a site.
I also use spread sheets where I have all the forum recommended ones that I glean over the years and then when I have GPS bearing whether from the link or from google maps etc I then put it in another spreadsheet that I use to download into my GPS. This file is called Forums so if it pops up I know that it is a site recommended by a fellow forum member and therefore gets more credence.

We all have our separate ways so as long as you are happy that's all that matters.

Regards
Brian
