Don't want to use the Toowoomba Range?

Then use the Gatton-Clifton Road 44 kms south of Toowoomba. It's generally a good road, nice scenic drive, and there's a free camp at Heifer Creek. #615 in Camps 6.

Will put that in my book Beth, just in case I find myself in the vicinity anytime and need to avoid the Toowoomba Range and Cunningham Gap.

Hi Beth,

We always use that road when we travel down to see our son in Geelong. As you say its a better way to avoid the range.

We were on that road about 2 weeks ago now and unfortunately the condition of the road thru the hills near Heifer Creek
was terrible. The road is in bad condition, but they are doing their best to repair it, but anyone heading thru there,
please take care.

But thoroughly agree with you, a very scenic road, and Heifer Creek is a nice spot to camp.

We stayed at Clifton for the night (on the road to Warwick) it was minus 7 !!!!!!

Regards,
Jan

Thanks for that info jan-ed. Struth! -7!! brrrr

I haven't been through since the floods last year. I would have thought any damage would be fixed by now.

Never mind, when we go through in October, we'll just take it steady. We'll probably have our first night at Leyburn #745, or Gore #796.

Happy travels. smile

Many years ago, my family and I were at Ularu and it was -7.5! We were supposed to go out and see the sun rise on the rock. Not a chance! biggrin
