The foliage changes from the grey of the saltbush and blue bush, to the bright fresh greens of the acacia and other foliage. There aren't many trees up the Strezlecki Track, and most of the foliage is a whispy cream grass moving with the wind.
There are wild flowers. The strong reds of the wild hops north of Leigh Creek. The purple of the pea-shaped ground cover flowers. The lavender of what appears to be wild lavender. The strong golds of the bush which looks like acacia, but is a cluster of small cup-shaped flowers with the most delicate, sweet perfume which should be bottled.
The desert is looking good. The Cooper is flowing fast but not over the causeway at Innamincka yet. The Cooper is hosting a vast assortment of wildlife, including pelicans in the clean "desert stream". Everything looks so healthy, but not the dust.
But the winds are cold in the day time. The lazy SE wind cuts across the dust and rocks betraying the warm sunny days. The nights are something else when it comes to cold. Such an intense cold, but not a frost. Just an intense, dry cold.
I'm home now after escorting a D9 bulldozer from Adelaide to a pipeline camp on the Santos oil lines about 250 kms NE of Innamincka. I can now tick the Strez off my bucket list.

Yes,the colours of the desert are beautiful, as are the coloures of south Austraia. Green and Gold follow the colours of the desert. The green of the wheat harvest, the gold of the canola.
Welcome back GC.

Thanks there. I think of you when I pass Parachilna. There's a big bus and trailer where your van used to be. I stayed at the Copley Park and had tea at the Leigh Creek Hotel at Copley. History decided this. There's a friendly, congenial character running the park, and the meal at the pub was good enough. I left early for home, so I got a look at the Flinders with the sunrise behind them. I love that country! What are you doing at Mt. Pleasant?

Thanks for thinking of us when you pass Parachilna. The big bus and trailer are the new housekeepers till the rest of the season. Agree, the Flinders sunrises and sunsets are beauul.
What are we doing at Mt Pleasant? Freezing! Cold, wet and miserable, so I dont' know why we are here. Actually, had to go to Elizabeth South yesterday (A1 Caravans) for a quote on a small job to be done later this month. Did not want to go back through the city, so moved up here, leaving tomorrow for Fleurieu. Hope the weather improves.

Thanks Gerty. Writing is actually what I do for recreation. I used to do it for radio and TV news. If I can describe the bush I will do my best in writing. It's very hard to do it justice.
