Hi all visited the whales ,saw quite a few but not a lot of activity in the water.Should you go to the head of the bight the drive is approx 5 km from hwy,good road.There is a stone building/shed at the entry to the viewing area,apparently you can stay in this are (large enough for c/vansto turn ) until opening time at 9.30am.No facilities though.
Quite a nasty inspector at the SA-WA border,she was very macho and abrupt.Spent some time in Esperance,weather a little cooler although t shirt weather still. Lovely scenic drive from Pink Lake c/van park ($30 pn no discount ( " we are a family park" no discounts given).Pink Lake has lost its colour due to the council removing the algea that makes in pink,the scenic drive along the coast makes up for it.
Decided we wanted to see family and friends sooner so we have arrived in Perth (Rockingham ),great weather.hopfully we shall do a tour down south before going home.

Before we got there we had heard horror stories about a female 'hitler' type pratrolling the SA/WA border but we were lucky enough to get a nice man that started to check the van till I mentioned I had previously read all the stuff on the net about the restrictions. He sounded quite pleased & said he wished more people would think ahead like that, then he looked in one more cupboard & said, with a smile, we were fine. I guess it depends on who you get.

Alfie, we got her the last time we came home to Perth, she needs reporting, and I will do that if we get her again, the job has to be done but not with that sort of attitude, most people abide by the rules and she gets upset before even checking us out, she shouted at Mrs W to get back in the car when the sign say's please open you caravan for inspection.
The last time I crossed the border about a month ago she was going through a bird cage - the seed the paper on the bottom, the water bowl, and everything the poor lady had in her overloaded little car. She looked to be relocating, and the black eye might have been an indication. The truck driver was waiting for me on the WA side while I waited in line, but the guy let me go around after checking my fridge etc. The Police team from Eucla is also all girls. One is quite pleasant, the other is not. Just try to do the right thing, and give them less to do. The "fruit fly" at Ceduna is much more congenial.

The good thing is you don't see the border patrol on the way back. You meet a different crew at Ceduna.
The upshot of this is the Ceduna Oyster Stall is right next door, get a dozen fresh oysters for $5.50 (last time).

While fishing , today, out at the point at Horseshoe bay, I saw a BIG humpback whale with a new born calf. The mother whale was 50 to 55 feet long, and one of the biggest I have seen in 40 odd years at sea. lovely animals, there seems to be more every year.I hope she, and her calf, don,t end up as whaleburgers in Japan. Bill
me too i love whales, im not a greeny by far but i for one think the killing of whales is rediculous its just not human ,they do no harm and leave them be i say

It is just greed pure and simple for the reason for killing whales. I think in this modern age they could surely find something else instead of whale fat to use. I am sick of that reason. They mainly eat the whale, although I don't care what they use them for they need to get with the times and figure out something else to use. The barbarians!! These creatures are truly majestic when seen in their natural habitat and it is a real shame that Japan cannot see that or the harm they are doing.
