Hi, are there any Tassie Solo's out there beginning to think about sorting out their gear - getting ready for some camping in Tassie. Shouldn't be too long now before the weather starts to warm up enough for the 'faint-hearted'. I'm on the North Coast of Tassie, and anxious to get going again

Lee and I are Newbies and our first trip is to Tassie from about mid December through to mid Feb. hopefully we will meet up with afew of you on the way.
Heading down to Tassie as soon as the school holidays come to an end after Easter. Haven't picked the dates yet, but will be staying at least a week. Plan to check out Bruny Island too.
Never been on the Spirit of Tasmania before. Not really looking forward to that part of the journey as my stomach and sea travel don't entirely mix, so any tips would be appreciated

We have just arrived on the Spirit of Tasmania today - was a pretty bumpy crossing, that was ok, we chose to go on the Ocean Loungers - which are very comfortable, they provide a pillow (very small) and a light rug - the chairs are like a Jason recliner - there are individual lights, handy. My trouble was they guy in front snored non stop - I kept kicking the back of his chair, which he had so far reclined it was hard to get out of my seat to go to the loo - consideration is the name of the game!
The boat itself is terrific, and getting on and off is very organised - we joined the queue around 4.15pm, and it moved pretty slowly - three u-turns!!!!! until we were in place to park, around 6pm - you drive on and drive off - so we were pretty well forward - they check you at Melbourne for guns, gas bottles (you can have the ones that are plumbed to your fridge etc), but any loose ones are taken, you get a receipt and pick them up in Devonport. They have a cursory look inside at Melbourne - and in Devonport they ask about fruit, vegetables, etc. - if you have eaten your fruit and have the peel, they will take it for you and dispose of it.
On the boat itself - there are maps everywhere to show where everything is - and you get one with your boarding pass - the food areas, pokies, theatre, tourist info and gift shop are on level 7 - The Captains Table do a good smorgasboard - we got the small plate - $18 - roast, vegies, roll, chicken wing, rice and a few other things - pretty good value - theatre had two different movies - 8pm and 10pm.
A guy at Devonport was handing out a sample bag - well worth getting - lots of information, maps, specials, discounts etc.
Would recommend it to anyone.
As for motion sickness, either kwells or ginger, both available from chemist seem to work well, lots of "sick bags" available on board though!! And get fresh air, go outside occasionally.
