We bought our campervan through 'gumtree' and had no problems.
The bad thing about going through gumtree is that we seem to get lots of interest from overseas who wants our account details and their agent will pick it up. Fortunately, I was told about this and ignored any such requests.
Depends on what you are selling BG - some other forums have "for sale" sections - Caravaners Forum for one, and Exploroz for another. Their forums aren't as much fun as ours, but interesting nevertheless. What do you want to sell.

I do have it advertised on Gumtree. The overseas buyers mentioned are Scammers... beware. Never give them any Paypal details that they always request. I have a Ford Transit LWB with a brand new fitout. Never used. The market is so depressed in Tasmania that it's hard to even get an inquiry !!! Incidently, I put this Posting in by accident. I meant to reply to another similar post but after it was posted I couldn't figure out how to delete it !!

Since light travels faster than sound, some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
Yes going through the controlled email system of Gumtree is best, do not supply a mobile or telephone number, Gumtree act as a go between and your email is not revealed to the enquirer or vice versa, if you are satisfied a sender is genuine, then you can exchange further details but only if you are sure as you can be.
Usually the scammers are working on an oil rig or somewhere else remote and want to buy it for their son or someone else and will arrange for someone to pick it up etc, there are various other scam tactics used to.
If anyone is accessing Gumtree, they must be online to do so, so you are not missing out on much by only using the email function on the site, if they are genuine they will use it too.....but still be wary, I still got a couple of scammers trying me on but reported them to Gumtree.
Suggest also put a For Sale sign on the back of your van for when driving around, shopping centres etc, on mine I put For Sale, next line Text For Details and my Mobile Number.....don't put the price as you may change it later and then have to change the sign.
I had a text off my sign asking for the price, I texted them back, but it must have been too much for them, but you never know, you might just strike the right person.....

Hi, we also had this types of reply many times while selling our car. It was the second caller doing the same when we thought something was very fishy. So pleased that we were not gullable.
