tinny roof loader

I had a ute and put a canopy on it, cost $2000. Roof racks cost me $750 for it, and when I sold the vehicle with low mileage, in spotless condition, got not a cent extra for them.

Never again.

I think Dunco did something like this awhile back so may be full bottle on it, or a couple of our resident fishermen here so hope you get some help on the matter.

G'day GT, during your research you will have to consider what the different canopy manufacturers offer in load rating if you choose the canopy option with whatever roof loading system you decide on. On my last ute I had the ARB heavy duty canopy with a load rating of 150kg. ( but at well over $3000.00 + not cheap) I think the cost of canopies are hard to justify as any perceived security with a canopy is just an illusion.no

Happy hunting,

cheers

The fibreglass made canopies are very expensive & I would not fit these if you wish to carry a boat as you have to fit internal supports so more expensive.

I would desighn & build a frame to the size & shape you wish with the strength to carry your boat, then have it clad in alloy with openings either side, seal the rear from dust . From this point its very easy to set up a side loader.

I saw a home made unit like this last year on the road that was so simple, bit hard to explain it to you on here but half of the slide rails became the rails the boat remained on. The two remaining halves folded beside each other. It used the normal side loader winch.

This way you end up with a very strong load sharing canopy at a budget cost.

I made my own and just had to learn the best technique to load the tinnie .A couple of boat rollers weld in brackets on the back, and give it a good push. You have to use ratchet ties downs these days , but I prefer 12mm silver rope. I have carried a tinnie to some of the most remote parts of OZ, and haven,t lost it yet.If you want , I will draw a diagram.Bill
