Storage of household goods, furniture

As we are newbies and plan on hitting the road in the next 12 months what to do with our 2 bedroom houselot of furniture ? So far the most economical way we have discovered is to buy a re furbished sea freight container and simply store the stuff in a container storage depot. We plan on being away for at least 3 years our furniture is newish. Cost to purchase the container is $2400 and storage $3 per day thats $around $5500 plus GST for 3 years , any transport/handling you are up for anyway. Once finished you can re sell the container for around 60% of what you paid for it. Storage complex units are way to expensive , apart from bludging on friends and family to clutter their sheds anyone else got any suggestions ?

I was going to suggest a storage complex unit, but you say that would be more expensive.
I haven't used once in about 10 years, a small one then cost me $90 a month.

Thanks Happy, to fit all our gear you can almost double that now and given once we return ( if indeed we do ) there is no re handling as it is already packed you just have to get it delivered to wherever. The bonus I guess is you do not have to get to serious about culling anything as it will all fit, even what may well be junk by then.

Thanks for the reply.

Cheers

Storage providers aren't cheap as you say...we are in the process of getting sorted out to sell our house prior to caravan purchase and a 6 X 3 meter unit is $435 per month........

Dead right, it looks like the best option at least for us is to buy a re furbished container for $2400 and then have them store at $3 per day, at least you get to sell back the container. Royal Wolfe Containers can help here as they can do the lot. The containers are all water tight and vermin proof, being an ex shipping person I have complete faith in them.
