All the time tcp99. Never been into a caravan park yet. A lot of the others will tell you the same. There are others who prefer C/Ps. If you have the Camps Aus Wide #6, it will give you all the info you need plus extra info from nomads on here who have been to the places and know what they are talking about.
I think, as Marj sez, some GNs free-camp all the time ... moving from one free-camp to another. Many (most?) have time limites and other conditions.
However, if there is no stipulated time limit imposed by the council etc then one can camp for extended periods. I have met quite a few who have been months in the same camp without incurring the wrath of authorities.
I think dawa camps for long periods in her camps.
cheers - John

I am intending to keep moving. Maybe stay in one spot for a couple of days or three. I have the Camps 6 book and will purchase a campervan which will make me pretty self-contained.

Self-sufficient, full time nomads seem to free camp most of the time, pulling into van parks occasionally for laundry, water supplies, visiting relatives who don't have big yards. I free camp when I'm working on the road, but personally prefer van parks when I tow the van. I'm not set up for full time free camping, but it wouldn't take much to make adaptions with solar. I live in my van full time in parks, and I use it as a base/home. When I retire again this may change. To be decided. I also enjoy the social comraderie of caravan parks, although some popular free camps offer similar social connections. It's free choice, and mainly decided by budget constraints.

Dont limit yourself to just free-camps! Theres heaps of other options including volunteering in exchange for a site and power/water, other sites ask a donation etc, and caravan parks arent all bad!
We met a couple who had been on the road for 14 years, had 5 caravans in that time, and he said they'd only free-camped for 1 night in all that time. Their motto was "make it easy on yourself... pull up, plug in, and relax."

We are on the road full time, and we mostly free camp - there are heaps of spots - sometimes not in exactly where you want to be. One of the things that would be good for you to do tcp99, is to read some of the blogs on here - for instance Yeoeleven (John) has just finished a year around the country, mostly free camping - and has now started off again, here in Qld. He gives great commentary on places he goes or stays at, and amazing photos of the area as well, well worth a read - put his name in "search", and a lot of stuff will come up, his blog is at the bottom of his page.
This is the life - freedom, chasing the sun, going where we like, when we like.
ps - welcome to the madhouse!
