Evening all, I'm looking to buy a UHF hand held for use by SWMBO when reversing the KEA into parking area's etc, suggestions as to brand, power, availability etc would be appreciated.
hi mate for that short distance you'd only need a 1 watt hand held,, i have a pair of 2 watt hand helds that i use in my pilot vehicle from time to time and i got them from dick smiths about 120.00 i think,, go for ones that take aa batteries as the other ones with built in battereis always seem to be flat just when you want to use them

I have a couple of 2 watt GME UHF handhelds for that reason & they are rechargeable on 3 AA batteries. Had them for many years & paid no more than $87 a unit. Good value as they are very useful talking to trucks etc when travelling.
I'm not particularly happy with mine. Sorry, can't remember the brand and the car's up the hill, so not going to have a look. My kids gave it to me. I use rechargeable batteries.
It only has a range of a couple of kms, which is fine by me, but I can only get a couple of words out and it beeps and 'they' can't hear me. I've had several people look at it and can't find what is causing it.
I think I'll be looking at fitting the other sort next year.
But, a handheld will probably be fine for your needs Santa.
Thanks for your replies people, sounds like I'm no orphan in the reversing communication saga, anything to keep the peace. I've got a 5 watt Uniden in the van so a low power hand held should solve one of our problems.
