Towing with a Jeep Cherokee 2.8 dsl

Greetings fellow nomads, well we are shortly to become that way at least. We have a vehicle as above the specs say it can tow 2800 kgs and we are currently pondering over the following vans.

Retreat - Fraser model 2009, very nice , in good nick has a ATM of 2400 kgs

Swift - Quattro FB brand new , very schmick ATM 1600 kgs.

On the one hand I like the ruggedness of the Retreat on the other the refinements of the Swift, decisions decisions.

We have no intention of crossing the Simpson dessert but would like to think we can traverse the odd dirt road without shaking the van to pieces. bear in mind we hope to be away for several years.

Is the Jeep up to towing that weight ?? anyone own one of these eurpean vans .

Appreciate any feedback.

Cheers

G'day psac, i have a 2.8 cherokee and tow a Jurgens skygazer which has a atm of 1800kg. Unless you have one of the old towbars rated at 2.8 t you will only be able to tow 2250kg. You must have a kj like me as the current cherokee can only tow 2250kg.

Hi PSAC,

our Brampton Retreat has been a fantastic van with excellent back up from the manufactors.  However the tare stamped on the compliance plate was probably a bit of an educated guess.  To cover ourselves we arranged to have a new plate with an updated ATM taking it to 3.00/t
