We put shelves in where the hanging space was... you can fit lots more t-shirts and folded jeans/crops or trackies. If it needs hanging it probably needs ironing so it doesnt belong in our caravan! Careful folding after washing keeps you looking moderately neat. Its a good idea to take one nice outfit. The weather will vary, so take clothes that you can layer such as tank-tops which are good for hot weather and shirts and jumpers that can be layered over them in cooler weather. If all else fails and you have "nothing to wear" LOL theres always op-shops in every town that are glad of your custom. Shoes can take up a lot of space... we do a lot of bush-walking so need good hiking shoes, I also found that my ugg-boots (put in as a joke) actually got plenty of wear in the evenings. I prefer shoes that you can slip on/off, saves bending down to do them up...in the end you wear just 1 or 2 comfy ones and everything else goes to the back of the cupboard. Dont take those next time!
Hi Sue - getting closer - I have about three pair of shorts, and several t shirts, and I rotate these - I roll things in the cupboard or drawers as they don't seem to get as wrinkled. In the wardrobe, a denim jacket, jeans, good dress, black pants and good top - cooler weather clothes are stored in overhead storage. I try for the policy, if I buy three things, I throw three out - that is mostly t shirts.

I carry far too much and have hanging space which really doesn't hold a lot. Think I will take Gerty's advice and fold all clothes carefully and use the shelves instead. I once was told you only need 3 or 4 of everything, recycle, have a jacket for when it gets cold, good walking shoes, sandals and 1 pair of good shoes, plus a good outfit. I don't follow advice very well.
Wow this has been a huge challenge trying to finish this house. We are living in the van up the drive as its too hard being in the house. Rod thinks we can finish the inside of the house in 20days.
Very little sleep and the adrenalin keeps flowing.By the time we finish we have completely renovating 4 bedrooms, a new lounge,a new kitchen new 2nd bathroom . and the laundry will just be painted. I do all the sanding and scraping. I dont want to see another double hung window with all is grooves for a long time. We will have to bring in a painter as it is impossible to have this house completed in time. Going into Bells caravan Park at Clontarf for 2 weeks as we have to come back and paint the side of the house and fix the fence and do the garden which has been neglected.Rod has his house in Brighton so we have to do a couple of jobs knowing we will be away for 2 years.
Are we exciting, secretly yes but we are only thinking one day at a time.Have found a great plumber for the new bathroom. Thank god I am with a carpenter.
Will enjoy a good holiday after this, may head to stanthorpe of crows nest for a 4 day rest.

Firefly, where do you store your clothes if you are using the wardrobe as a pantry? I am now thinking of doing some rearranging before heading south. I could pack them all under the bed but would have to find somewhere else for my fold up chair and also table in there carry bags. You have got me thinking.
SWMBO,always rolls up clothes on shelves too.In summer the winter stuff is in vacuum storage bags and the other way in the winter.She tells me she can get three times as many clothes stored that way.
I find that a good space saver is to have a couple of fabric shoe hangers. You can buy them from the cheapie shops for a few dollars. They are approximately 14cms wide and they have 10 compartments x 20 cms deep. You can use a couple of compartments for shoes and the rest for rolled up t shirts/jeans/shorts/towels etc; Another plus is that everything is easily seen and accessible without rummaging around.
I have used this method for years and find it to be invaluable. Hope it helps someone.

I used to have some of those Pam, threw them out when I left Victloria. bugger. Where do you hang them, thought they would be too tall for any cupboard. Hope all these questions I'm asking are helping GollyMolly with her queries.
Marj I put them in baskets in the cupboard. My wardrobe was hindered at the bottom with a shelf bought about as the storage for the a/c unit. (the white shelf on the bottom) Therefore any clothes hanging were all creased on the bottom third anyway. So it was to be either a pantry or just shelves for clothes. I love my pantry.

I must be a binge thinker. I do it a lot at times, then, not much at all.
You must be exhausted pet, such a lot to do, as far as clothes are concerned, if you havent worn something in the last 18 months, (exception jacket, or burberry trench coat) then selavie, hang on to your mohair scarf for dear life also, anything with a stain on it put it box and call it trip clothes, as you wear it, throw it out, saves washing. And if you run out of anything, make a beeline for the opp shop, the little church ones are great for good stuff , if you want to look smart. Good luck.
Yes I find the same thing Firefly, my clothes are all folded over for the bottom third, most annoying. I know what I'm going to be doing tomorrow. Having a big change around. I have a shoe container, not the sort that Travel Bug was talking about, but a zipped up two row with clear plastic top, that I had here under the bed with my shoes in, bjut found I forgot what shoes I have so took them all out and threw the bag in the bottom of the wardrobe. I'm talking in the big house now, not in the van. Maybe I can put that to use in the van somewhere.
Marj, because each compartment is separate (in mine anyway) if they are too long for your hanging space you can just cut off what you don't need.
Some time ago, I told a friend about this and because her hanging space was short she cut one in halves...this gave her 2 hangers of 5 compartments each...but one was topless. She sewed a double layer of denim from an old pair of jeans onto the top of the piece she had cut off and then made a velcro hanger for it by copying the original. She likes it so much that she has now made another 2.

Jules I think that is a great tip.............roll clothes instead of folding them, I will be doing that from now on, I also have the fabric hangers though mine are not for shoes but for clothes, think I paid about $6.99 from memory at Crazy Clarkes, just like having shelves in your wardrobe, really gives so much more room for fold up or roll up clothes.
