I'm leaving Brisbane in the morning, planning to travel south thru NSW along the New England Highway. I've never traveled that area and wonder if those who have could please tell me what I should'nt miss? There are a number of National & other Parks along the way I hope to get some walking in (day trips only). I'll be monitoring this forum along the way and perhaps meet a few other Grey Nomads along the way - look for my HiAce poptop with Loki on the back in red letters!
I've been thinking I hadn't seen you post for quite a while, thought you may have already been home. No tips here, I travelled that road only once and don't remember much. Sorry I was too busy worrying about the horsefloat with 5 cats I was towing.
Hi Anton, will be travelling in that direction after Millmerran next week, no plans yet but we may be able to meet up. Will take me until early November to get to Green's Lake so that leaves plenty of time. John
Glad to see you are on the road again. I have left the van at Longreach and taking 2 days to get to MacKay for a few days to see the grand-daughter. Will head south in a few weeks - is getting too hot at Longreach. Quite strange travelling without my 'bed' behind me. The roads are too rough in places to travel much faster than I do when towing I have decided. Was thinking that highway also but will keep an eye on the forum for both of you.

There are few old rail bridges along the abandoned rail way line, and some station remains.
Dorrigo might be a bit off the track, but the train collection is still growing, and they are close to opening, but they have been saying that for over 25 years that I have been going there.
There is a nice free camp/ rest area just north of Glen Innes (I'll look it up in camps when I get home).
Glen Innes also has some nice historic buildings, the info centre used to have a walking guide.
I sometimes stay at Guyra, the caravan park that claims to be the highest in Australia is OK, but its more of I've stayed there sort of thing.
If you are a veteran or supporter, stay away from the the military museum at Uralla, I was there 2 months ago and the state of the place is criminal.
Scone has gone mining so is not so tourist friendly any more, my home town of Murrurundi, is nice, the Red Rose cafe used to be the best eating around, but its changed owners and reports are its not what it used to be.
Burning mountain between Murrurundi and Scone is worth a stop in my book, also there are some caves at Timor http://www.timorcaves.com/ and of course Mr Packers little getaway Ellerston is not far from there.
If you are into the macabre there also Aberdeen, the home of Katherine Knight, but don't ask around town, they don't like the attention.
I also like the Gwydir highway between Glen Innes and Grafton, but it is a popular route for trucks.
Yes Billeeee I am behaving myself, not many opportunities to misbehave for this old duck. Glad to hear the bed is fixed, now be kind to it and don't give it a "hard" time. I am heading off on the Winnebago Great Ocean Road safari in a couple of weeks. Maybe I will be able to misbehave on that.
Apologies to Loki for going off topic, just needed to answer Billeeee's post.
