Hi Phil,
I envy you. Lived here for 12 yrs and still not done the boat trip over. To day is a bit of a hell day for traffic so best your not coming today. Bernley tunnel closed and traffic everywhere. When you do come in I don't think you will have much trouble with a bike and trailer. There are a few carparks and roads where vans park waiting. Just head around the roundabout at Station Pier towards the west gate bridge area. There are two carparks around there which would suit. Some vans camp there the night before leaving. It costs to park on Beach Road along the bay but not around towards the bridge. If you head through Beacon Cove (high rise area) and around to Westport Reserve on The Boulevarde you should have no trouble. Not sure how early you can board but you will see everyone else heading around to Station Pier when it's time.
Have a great trip.
Tess

I have only taken my car over Phil but I do suggets you take everything you want with you in the cabin when you leave the car as you can't go back to it later and take your own pillow to the cabin unless you like 1" thick so called pillows. That may have changed now though, it's been a few years.

Hope you have booked a cabin rather than sitting up.
Ensure you have observed the quarantine rules re fruit and vegies and especially no honey. The checks at the Tasmanian end are very thorough.

Departure is 7.30 p.m. You can get on th ewharf from 5.30 p.m. onwards, go thru the security check, check in then line up until boarding commences, usually before 6.30 p.m. Parking at Port Melbourne is expensive. Meters operate 24/7 at $4.00 an hour. Plan your arrival at the Pier from 5.30 p.m. onwards. Check out Quarantine procedures coz your car and caravan will be searched at Devonport. Also if you have any fishing gear, make sure it is spotlessly clean. No bait. Here is the Quarantine link:http://www.quarantinedomestic.gov.au/destination-tasmania.html

if boarding starts at 7pm get there about 15 minutes prior too as there is no parking (plenty on the tassie end). it is even a problem with just a vehicle on the melb end but the inconvence is soon forgoten once you arrive. If yo have booked a recliner (I also do when traveling solo), take a sleeping bag and at about 10.30 settle on one of the bench seat on deck 9 (I like the ones near the toilet). Dont try to do it too early as you will be moved on by security. I sleep better there than in a cabin. Enjoy your trip
cheers
