You can camp at Broke for 72 hours free, no showers or potable water, but flushing toilets there. I doubt there is a lot within walking distance of other attractions around the vineyards area. Everything spread out. Enjoy your trip.

Try Cessnock Wine country caravan park.If you google Cessnock van parks you will find it.Stayed at the big4 & not impressed at what you get for the price.

You could also check out the showground.

Hunter Valley Gardens is great - you may be able to hitch a ride on the 'train' they have instead of walking. Don't leave your van unattended at Broke. But nice spot to camp. How far up the valley are you planning on going? There is camping at Dungog showground and Clarencetown and Stroud showground. Up the New England, there are caravan parks at the major towns but you will be saddened to see what the mines have done to the area. Hope you have a good time.

Hi Woosy,

Found this link for the alternative to Big 4.

http://www.valleyvineyard.com.au/petpark.html

Ask not to be put near the main road, it will be super noisy there with semis going through.

The tourist information centre is at the airport on the way into town. Don't make the mistake of buying coffee and cake there, you need to mortgage your house for that adventure no

They do lovely balloon flights over the valley, spectacular if you like that sort of thing.

Driving around the vineyards there are a lot of nice little spots to go for a look see.

The Smelly Cheese Factory is to die for, I love cheese.

Parking is very poor in the town for caravans so be wary of that mate. Back of Big W is not too bad.

A couple of links that may spark some ideas for you. smile

My suggestion is to stay at Belmont PInes. Its about 20-30 minutes from the vineyards, but such a great spot.

No problem Woosy.

The Wine Country Park was closed for a long time. Only been open maybe 12 months or so? Time goes so quick, I can't really remember.

I walked through the Big 4 about 6 months back and it is tidy but not stayed there for many many years. Haven't heard any nice reports about it though to be honest.

Might be worth ringing to book, depending what is on in the area at the time of your visit.

The concerts book the town solid.

Belmont Pines is in Belmont, on the east side of lake Macquarie, south of Charlestown (good shopping) and north of Swansea (good fishing).
