Using your figures, and calculating with the price of fuel at $1.5/L (slightly above that here at the moment), you Lancer uses 6L/100Km which is pretty good even for a small car. Using your figures for the Navara, with the same price of fuel, it uses 10.3L/100Km. If the Nissan is the model with the 4cyl 2.5L turbo, that's sounds about right for normal day to day driving but maybe a tad high if you are a very careful driver who rarely drives at or over 100K/H, but you can expect your consumption to increase dramatically when towing a van. If it's the 3.0L V6 model, then your doing pretty well on the consumption and can expect a higher (possibly not as high as the 2.5L) consumption when towing. But you'll certainly have a better experience when hauling a van.

well what a pity my lancer could not tow our van it has a 40lt tank and i can get up to over 550k for $50 brought a navara st 80lt tank and is flat out getting 550lk at $85 cant make that out thought that the nisson would do so much better than that and when we tow we have to fill up at about 350kl not happy we have only done 11,000 kl hope it gets better fuel wise
Have you calculated the fuel consumption in litres per 100k or kms per litre for the Navara when both towing and not towing? Is the Navara petrol or diesel? How many litres does it take to fill the tank after 550kms (not towing) and 350kms (towing). Expecting fuel consumption figures from the larger Navara comparable to the smaller Lancer is somewhat unrealistic.
Pulling a van the size of the one in your avatar will also use significant additional fuel, especially if petrol. You may have to consider a long range tank to extend the range of rig if range is an issue.
that doesn't sound too bad. We tow a 20' jayco outback (very heavy suspension) and loaded for permanant living (heaps of stuff) with a 2006 Navara twin cab diesal 3litre and get betwene 13.5 and 17 lts per hundred k's. Ute is also loaded. Thats towing at 80k's/hr with no wind.Worst ever was 20lt /100 k's towing into a strong head wind.

Was thinking of buying one till I talked to some tradies they did not give them a good rap , would go back to Toyato next time must do our home work before spending lots of money , But feul consumption not every thing but if it is do your home work
Have you calculated the fuel consumption in litres per 100k or kms per litre for the Navara when both towing and not towing?
Hi ..
On to one of my hobby horses ... fuel consumption ... measurement.
To put forward a comment or view on fuel consumption you must be able to quote usage in the standard vis. Litres per 100 Kilometers (L/100k).
I keep a constant look at my poor old 95 EFI Patrol's (petrol) consumption at every refuel do the sums. If the usage varies form normal I look for reasons. Driving on smooth roads at 85/90 km/hr with just average ups & downs, light winds & the 2.4ton Jajco behind I expect around 20L/100k. Have got up to 24 in adverse conditions & 15 on highway with no van. With a 90L tank you need to keep an eye on usage.
ps.
I also have an accurate idea in usage per 1/4 tank as a rough guide to usage.
Oh for a new vehicle with computer based calculations & only at a cost of $70,000 or more.
I have a 02 Navara 3lt Diesel and tow a 19.6 starcraft i get about 8.9-9.2lt around town and 13.8-15lt/100ks with the van on. Opened the exhaust up a bit and had turbo rebuilt with high speed steel bearings for a bit more grunt, had it 10yrs and won't even think about changing it..
