I understand there is a 'scientific group' who are setting up an 'observation' site and making it a 'guided/informed' experience or something .... Oh dear, I really do need to listen more carefully to the radio of a morning
Cheers - John

Rocky Lizard I have it on good authority that there are 60000 visitors expected in Cairns for the "event". We have our CE certified solar glasses just need a place to view it because I sure ain't heading out in all that traffic (or all those pedestrians) to the Esplanade and we have a few too many trees in the way to see it properly from home. Maybe will join some friends who are going to camp at one of the beaches overnight, but then half the population of Cairns are probably intending to do the same thing. The best place to view it is actually closer to Port Douglas. I know people from Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands who will be arriving the week before the big event so they don't miss out. Some people have more money than sense.
No one is selling tickets (as far as I know) but there may be a few gullible people who would be willing to pay for a spot somewhere. I believe all the hotels, motels and caravan parks are sold out. Maybe I should advertise one or two of our spare rooms? Hadn't thought of that before. Every dollar counts!

Yeah geobuz ... it was on WIN News tonight ... "expecting 60,000 people" over the next few weeks to watch the eclipse, and as you say, from all over the world.
The "6,000 tickets" I had heard was some scientific dude on ABC Local radio (Cairns) being interviewed earlier this week. Apparently "he" (they?) are setting up a 'scientific site' somewhere outside Cairns for which people have bought tickets to watch the eclipse through big telescopes etc and have 'scientific guides' to explain it all. I was not listening that well, so cannot remember who "they" were ... but they were apparently not from Cairns - outta towners.
cheers - John
