Well, here I am and it's day 15 already. After spending 10 nights in Lakes Entrance which I fully relaxed and loved, I left last Friday 19th and headed to Canberra via the Monaro Hwy, I had intended to stay 20km Nth of Cooma but when I pulled into the free camp site I was far from impressed and as it was only 1.00pm I decided to continue onto Canberra, I rang the cv park that appeared to be the cheapest as I really only wanted power and amenities block and got a site.
I didn't like the site they put me on as it was right down the back with all gravel and very close to the cv next door, I didn't even get enough room to put up the awning, not only that, they were building 8 new cabins on the other side of me so I looked around and picked a real nice site and asked to set up there, no problem.
I was a bit worried when I checked in as there were I would say at least 50-60 Harley Bikes out front and the office was full of Bikers, not Bikies, a lot of them were my age. I heard the lady in the office say to someone on the phone they had about 1000 bike people booked in for the weekend. As it turned out they were no trouble at all in fact a couple of the older blokes were taking kids around the park for rides Saturday afternoon. There was a Harley Club convention, 1000's of bikes around all weekend from all over Aus. I just had to turn of about that, those that know me will know why. Most left Sunday.
This park is a Motel, Caravan, Camping and Cabin park and also has Dorms and Bungalows with a very large Meeting room area as well, massive place, not 4 or 5 star any of it, in fact I would only give it 2.5 or 3 at best but clean and power site only $22.00 per night (Cheap). It must be popular as 6 buses full of school kids arrived yeterday, Monday, they also were good. I came across some of them while I was in the War Memorial and again around the Parliament precinct.
I have met some really nice people from the GN forum over the weekend and was the tourist yesterday and will again some of today. I went out last night armed with camera and tripod to attack Canberra by night but didn't last long as it got freezing and very bitterly cold wind but got some shots.
I leave here tomorrow 24th and head to Batemans Bay for My 10 night travel auction stay. More GN meetings planned for there as well already.
I'm surprised you didnt get blown off Mt Ainslie Doug!! That caravan park looks ok, might use it on our return trips to Canberra if there are any! The weather is improving for you trip to the coast... enjoy!
G'day Doug - I know that park in Canberra - always used to stay there - in the motel section, before became travellers proper - plenty of room from what I remember - and always were lots of workers, groups etc staying there - but well placed, and well priced.
Glad you are enjoying yourself - enjoy Batemans' Bay - it is windy down here in Vic - and the clouds have just come over the sun - so a bit cool for us Queenslanders!!!!!

Glad that you are enjoying retirement and your early travels. Although after a little while, you will probably have trouble remembering what day of the week it is, let alone how many days since you retired!! We keep a calender (with big printing) just inside our doorway when we need reminding.
Have a safe trip and take it easy going down Clyde Mountain.

I was at Telstra Tower first and it was bitterly cold wind there so cleared out real quick Rosie. Strangly it wasn't as bad at Mount Ainslie, for a little while anyway.
See you over the coast at some stage, I will PM you as I don't have a contact number for you over there.
