I am in the Snowy Mountains, working my way from Tumut through to Jindabilly, then heading south for the remainder. There are some really good camps along the way from Tumut, but the first one, #775 (all numbers from the Camps6 Book) Log Bridge Creek Camp was a bit steep and not quite as flat as the photo shows: My recommendation is to continue on to #774 or #773, which are easier access and have great outlooks over the dam.
I intended stopping at #766 Kiamba Rest area next but it is only a small area so I checked out Bullocks Hill, about 10Km before Kiamba , which isn't shown in Camps6 but is on the "Free Guide to Mt Kosciuszco National Park", obtained from the Tumut Visitor Centre. There is only a small wooden sign on the left side of the road (traveling East from Tumut) on a dirt road leading in, but it is a good road, the camp is set up as a horse camp and you can camp either in a grove of snow gums or on an open mountain meadow - much better than Kiamba!
Anton, if you haven't already left the area, check out the Yarrangobilly caves. Some are self guided with signs explaining things along the way, others you have to pay for a guide to take you through. When I was last there, I was unfortunately travelling in my small car with a friend and had to move on to our next destination, but it was truly amazing and don't forget the swimming togs. There's a beautiful hot springs pool for you to swim in. There's no accommodation there except for special occasions, which is unfortunate. Not sure if they'd let you camp in your rig there for a night. The rangers were very friendly.
Here's a link for you or anyone else who might be interested............
Thanks for the comments, autograph is in the mail, tho I'd hardly aspire to be called a 'celebrity'. When 'asked' to answer some questions, all I thought about was the poor guy getting whacked by the Webmaster, obviously for NOT cooperating: With 4 years in the navy (four years, one month, one week and one day actually) and 41 years of married life, I understand 'asked'. Disgression being the better part of valour and all that.
Yes Aime, I visited the caves, all three of them actually. They are all different and well worth seeing all of them, they are really brilliant! There is also a thermal pool there which was nice.
Also, if you end up in Jindabyne, there's a small Italian restaurant there that does a wicked pizza. I'm a bit of a pizza connoisseur and the "Aussie" i had from there was at a world standard................ or maybe I was just plain starving
