We are off to Tassy - will be free camping most of the time - an occasional caravan park if we need - we have no set plan - will decide the day after we step off the boat which way to turn - left or right. Gonna be a lot of fun, we will be five months down there - hope to meet lots of GN's along the way.

Have you done the tassie trip before and when are you's thinking of going? if I'm there when you's are there would be good to catch up and trade information

For those nomads who are visiting Tassie and like fishing check this site out. Can recommend the information given by these friendly fisher folk, guests welcome but subscribe for free, but you must have a email address other than the hotmail, yahoo type etc. www.fishtas.com

We will be there till April next year - 5 months - plenty of time to see just about everything - would be good to meet up - will send you a private message with phone number when over there - ok?

Hi Vincent,

I am sailing on the 30th November and travelling in a Hi Ace, the price was better than sailing in December. Have never been to Tassie before and my current sail back date is mid January but I intend to change the departure date to the end of February allowing me to visit the PeaceFest at Wynyard. Hope to catch up with you over there, I am currently at Green's Lake and plan to be here until departure.

I put this in another post, but off on the "Spirit" just after the school holidays next April. It's not that I don't like kids. I have 6 grand children, but usually fares and site fees (if needed) are cheaper in the "off" season.

I have a good friend moving to the New Norfolk region late January, so will be spending a couple of days with him.

Not looking forward to the ride over. My stomach and the high seas don't mix well, but am looking forward to the rest of the trip.

looking to see jules47, hoping they would of have found all the good spots and places to visit. and yeoeleven I was thinking of going earlier but have to be here in mid Dec. maybe you could do some of your fine painting on my van as well :)

We are here!!!!! Arrived this morning - the sun came out in Devonport as we docked, currently at Railton (free camp - dump point & water) small town - but very friendly - in need of a rest - guy in front of me snored all night!!!!! We came over in the Ocean Loungers - pretty comfortable - trip was pretty rocky, but not too bad. Will check out where we are headed after a much needed rest!

Which way ru going Jules ? I went down the centre stopping along the way then went down to ****le creek which was fantastic. Then back up the east coast which was stunning and then across the top and got as far as Arthur river which is well wroth doing the cruise.

Tassie is simply stunning and 5 months will go quick :) if u go with Billeeee to MONA keep a leash on him, there's sum very raunchy exhibits there ;)

I only had 5 weeks and will definitely get back there to see all I missed in the future.

Mornin Brett, what was the road like t c.ckle creek? was told a bit ''rough'' I,m towin a van? We are at ''Gordon'' , below Snug, great free site. have spent 4 wks on the east coast, left 3 wks for the west, but will not be enough i reckon. Tassie 'does' the free campsites really really well. I will have t come back on my m/bike an do it all again!!

Hi Brett - we are at Sheffield at the moment in the free camp, was raining yesterday when we got here, so plan to have a good look around today - we have a "sort of" plan at this stage to head to the north coast and do east to west, or then west to east -

And what are the "raunchy" exhibits I should keep Billeeeeeee away from? (I will look it up)

Hope to see a lot in our five months!!

Good morning Phil - heaps of m/bikes came over on the ferry when we did - long weekend over here - Recreation Day on Monday I think. We will most likely head to Launceston tomorrow or the next day - Beaconsfield etc. The free camps are wonderful, nice and flat, water supplied as well as dump points. People are very friendly we have found.

Might catch you somewhere - will pm a phone number.

Hi Jules, we stayed at ''batman bridge'' [free ] for a cuppla days, & did the touristy bit up both sides of the river without the van, did the east coast first to give the weather time t 'settle' b 4 we started the west side... are goin down as far sth. [ co.kle creek ] as we can in the next few days,then head t Strahn etc......

We are staying at a free camp just outside Penguin - it is not in the Camps 5 - maybe in no. 6 - nice little spot beside the sea, just off the road, looks like a life saving club premises - self contained vehicles only, no tents - no facilities - we were heading to No. 231 in Camps 5 - Hall Point - but this seems ok, probably much the same, about five others here.

Left Sheffield to have a look at Devonport - walked round there for a few hours - there is a camp at Coles Beach - $10 - asphalt - nothing else, decided to keep going, one good thing about daylight saving - still broad daylight! Devonport is a very nice place - plenty of shops, and all dominated by the Spirit of Tasmania on the other side of the Mersey River (they have a ferry crossing the river - couldn't stop singing "Ferry, cross the Mersey" -

The road here was great - divided highway most of the way, we stopped at a lookout called Braddons Lookout - well worth driving the 2k up for - amazing views of the ocean, mountains and paddocks!!! Met a nice couple, they had a look at the motorhome, and now they want one when they retire!!!

Where tomorrow takes us is anyones guess - so much to see and do - strange names of places too - Dismal Swamp, Nowhere Else, Nook, The Dip - have fun imagining how they get their names.
