Weve just come back with our rig from a round trip from Perth to Wave Rock, down through Ravensthorpe to Hopetoun, then back along the South Coast to Denmark and home again passing through Manjimup.
Just thought the following information on sites we stayed at might be of use to WA travelers and visitors to our state. All sites are listed in Camps 6.
Gorge Rock on the way out through the Wheat belt to Wave Rock is a fascinating stop and ideal for big rigs. No facilities, but well off the road. Take a walk up to see the swimming pool blasted out of the rock and walk up on to the rock. The views are fantastic.
The site just north of Ravensthorpe is another great pull in for the night. Again no facilities, but free and well off the road.
Masons Bay is a must. Just off the beach. Drop toilets only. No water. Minimal charge if the council warden decides to turn up. The run in on corrugated road is fine. Would imagine it gets busy during holidays as there are not that many pitches.
Parrys Beach is good for small rigs. I wouldnt recommend it for larger twin axel jobs as the trees are very low and there is not much room for maneuvering. Walk it first before going in to the site. Minimal charge. Good solar shower and toilet block.
And lastly a real gem Shannon National Park. $9.00 per person a night, but well worth it. No problem with big rigs. Good showers and toilets. A real back to nature site.
We also stayed in a few tourist parks. Expensive and unfriendly. Unfortunately, they are a necessary evil if you want to park up and leave your van close to town.
