Well, if Q fever wasn't enough to deal with Barry now has shingles. Am interested in other peoples experience with vitamin supplements in an effort to relieve symptoms and speed up recovery

My gosh, it must have been the stress. My older son had shingles in his 20s. Going through a divorce at the time, doctor said stress will cause it. He still has the scars across his middle. Sorry I don't have any remedies.
Oh No! Poor Barry, its painful and slow to heal. Have known several people with shingles, still dont know any way of helping except painkillers, one lady got relief from using ice on the area. Good luck!
.. just on 18 years ago I had the shingles to the rear r/h side of my head .. apart from painkillers and time itself, I wasn't able to find a magic cure .. these days there is no longer any pain whatsoever, but there is still a sensitivity at the location .. ie .. still unable to feel water moving across the area when in a shower ..
with me, the acute pain did last for about 3 months ..
Wow! That was a long time biggles. We have had a son get them twice (different nerve lines each time) and my husband has also had them. Just pain killers after the initial medication - which has to be taken asap. My husband found he couldn't take panadeine forte - that gave him worse side effects than the shingles! Hope he can cope with the pain. Ice pack sounds like a good idea.
Drink plenty of clean water, herbal teas like perrpermint, lemon balm and use the cold tea to dab on the sores.
Vitamin tablets if you have plenty of money as they just get p*****d down the toilet and pollute our waterways, our oceans, and so on....

Got to keep moving and as Hippocrates the modern medicine guru once said "Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food
I can verify that Red Clover Tea dabbed on wounds will heal them quickly. Comfrey Ointment also will heal wounds and cuts etc. quickly, though you have to ensure that the area is absolutely clean before applying.
thanks everyone - trying lots of sugested topical soothers- and hopefully have started the medication in time - panadeine forte and digesics for pain - Lysine and magnesium to boost immune system (recommended for cold sores so hoping they may help) I've also started the magnesium and Lysine in a bid to avoid catching it as well. Normally Barry is healthy but guessing the Q fever knocked his immune system about making him more susceptible as he is not a worrier and we don't have any stress in our lives.

Hi I hope all is recovering. This may or may not be of help but worth remembering. I have had shingles a few times now. the last time I got a cold I started having the shingles pain and one tiny tiny red spot in the original area and I went to dr. immediately and got antiviral tablets and this knocked it on the head and stopped it from going bazerk. I am now very aware of any small niggly pain in the original area and because there is only a 3 day window for medication to work I get myself to the dr. immediately. good luck. rocket.
Revive another Old Topic. The Shingles Vaccination is still available FREE for over 70's, but this changes in October 2021 ? according to a now unfindable source.
However, get it done if you have not. Horrible to get, eyesight is a big risk.

"A single dose of shingles vaccine is recommended and funded for adults at 70 years of age. Adults 71-79 years of age are also eligible under a five-year catch up program until 31 October 2021.
At the commencement of the program, the interest in the vaccine was unprecedented. Early shortages have been addressed and there is now ample stock available to meet ongoing demand under the program."
"Vaccines covered by the NIP are free for people who are eligible. See the NIP Schedule to find out which vaccines you or your family are eligible to receive."
I've had shingles twice in my 50s then in my 60s both times my body was under stress 1st time I was only getting 3hrs a night sleep because of studying 2nd time I flew cattle class to the UK, then drove a long way to the first destination. The trip to the UK was a nightmare as I was crook the whole time. And my hubby wonders why I want to do slow-mo road trips now.
Get well soon
