Went to explore and look for a suitable walk. Found one but after taking it am not so sure it was suitable it was to climb Mt Roland and it said between 4 to 6 hours but I set off at 9.30 and didnt get back till 5 30 absolutely exhausted.

I took the track from ONeills Road but actually started from ONeills Reserve where I am camping, so that adds around 2kms to the walk. Just kept onward and upward until I got there but the last 60mtrs were the hardest because the track finished at a pile of rocks which had to be negotiated to reach the summit. There was no marked way and many options and the biggest problem was faced when excitedly reaching a view of the marker I didnt take a lot of notice as to which rocks I climbed over to get there and when setting off back there were again many options and several different ways down. Luckily I was able to find one that led back to the track.

Going up I had energy and was looking forward to getting to the summit but going down was just a difficult walk on cramping up 76 year old legs I was pleased to reach the camper. Chalk it up to another example of my lack of common sense and inflated view of my invincibility. Incidentally the summit is 1233 metres above sea level and Bluff Knoll is 1099 Metres. The walk was 8.5 kms each way plus the track back to the reserve. Unfortunately not the best camera for distance shots. John

   You are a better man than I, I've stayed at O'Neill creek a few times and never once thought I would like to climb Mt Roland, thankfully by body talks to me a bit louder than yours did, well done anyway. You haven't had a visit from the Caravan park owner? he was one of the 4 who took the councils to court over free camps, I had a runin with him the last time I was there, called us "Freeloaders"

I'd have died up there.  Wish I was able to do what you still can John.  Keep enjoying yourself, but don't over-do things.
